Before the frictionless ban, Solja uses Dr. N Superblock or Dr. N Wall. I don't really remember which particular rubber but she previously uses those banned frictionless pips. |

Putting on my asbestos jacket...
Isn't this girl (Solja) maybe, the reason why ITTF banned frictionless? It makes the player over reliant on it and proper growth would be stunted. Just like you are not allowed to use calculator in your early school years. You have to learn mathematics the hard way. The way Solja play can never succeed in the senior years where players know how to execute strategic playing style. In the juniors where most players isn't savvy enough to read ball spins adequately, she can get free easy points. Take a look at the points Solja made, it is mostly from the errors of her opponents misreading the spin of the ball or mistiming their strokes on the ball. Her current form and strokes could never make it to the top 20 of the ITTF rankings. She's too slow and no offensive power compared to the current top 20 now(Solja would be ripped apart even by Fukuhara) in the seniors while the Japanese girl has the chance to become a future Kim Kyung Ah. |

I, personally, thought that the Tanioka/Solja match was one of the most interesting I have seen recently. I tend to like the unorthodox styles...constant loopers/attackers bore me into a stupor.

She is using Dr. Neubauer Gorilla anti on her backhand. That's the reason her BH stroke seems odd to inverted loopers. magritte |

She plays with short pimples on the forehand. Not sure with the backhand (long pimples I guess) but she used to play with frictionless pimples on the backhand until the ban. |

I'm not trying to be a jerk by writing this... really, I'm not. But if Amelie just loses a little weight, I think she would definitely play better. Granted, getting to the finals was quite an achievement. However, with a little weight loss, I think she would not "hug" the table so much. She will be confident taking a small step back and have a good, powerful opening loop. Right now, she just blocks and flat hits. She rarely opens with her forehand because she can't recover from her swing fast enough. So with a little less bratwurst in the diet, I think she can be a better player and be able to put away more balls against choppers.

This match is like an endless replay The german girl kept using her backhand against the chop. I thought your forehand is supposed to be better to deal with backspin? Maybe it's her weird BH stroke... It doesn't look quite like a loop, more like a push or something. Anyone care to explain her technique? |

Thanks, Fixpoint. And I agree with JKC - this is not the match I would want to watch for long. And that is two of the best four young girls in the WORLD! shame... By the way, did you notice how Amelie stomps her foot ? I wonder if that's intentional - it seems the entire hall is shaking... |

I like his play and think he will have a good future in european level. But to compete in world level he has to progress. |

Because there's a lumpy section where the glue has dried underneath?
If so, that's harsh - I find it really tough to get a completely flat finish with the new water-based glue.

no wonder ITTF is under guidance of knucleheads, instead of making up new rules they should book a flight to germany and learn how to make a decent live coverage.
this raquet http://www.ittf.com/ittf_pictures/Photo_Enlarged.asp?ID=17111&Competition=&Competition_ID=1732& is not legal, doesnt comply the rules
