@bonggoy,
I seldom join tournaments. I'm not really good with service and return. I agree with you. When I learn this sport in 2006, I really didn't pay much attention with footwork because it's just a recreation for me. Right now, I'm starting to work on it. But I guess I'm too heavy. My legs hurt easily. @debraj, Thanks! Don't worry next time I'll try to hit them hard.. Haha!

nice videos buddy, ...great bh opening, good forehand loops...
But little disappointed that you let the high balls drop down so you can loop, instead of slamming them when they are high.......after all the good effort you have spent to get those high. also you look like some chinese marshal art hit-man out of hollywood movies..who is too polite to hit, only loops.

I've always wanted to go to Cebu. Unfortunately my schedule won't permit it. Regards to Handel by the way.

Looks like you know how to play junk players so you will easily be above 2000. If you play a lot of tournaments, you should break 2100 but that will be tough to maintain because of the following: - You are a little passive. There were certain times when you were playing against the penholder where you could have taken the offense but you instead block the ball back passively. - Serves and serve returns needs to be tighter. Most of your returns are easily attacked. Ditto with serves. - You have problem moving to your right. This is very evident after your opponent loop one to your backhand then to your forehand. |

Me against a tougher opponent - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qnefhP4NRE
He's Pong. His playing style is push, push and push which are very tight. He's like a chopper inside the table.

I, like APW, don't really know this rating system because like you, we only watch players in videos. It is hard to really figure out one's rating from videos. Edited by dragon kid - 02/07/2011 at 9:01pm |

Hahaa.. good point..
But what I was kinda try to show you is what 2300 level player look like, probably close to those former national player that roundrobin mentioned above.. So I think 2100 is fair for peds |

Like you said APW, sometimes video can be misleading.
Maybe those video you saw on 2200-2400 players are not the best. Here is one of my favourite TT video. Featuring a former Malaysian national player vs a former Philippines national player.. two of 'not so strong' TT countries. Both rated around 2300 at the time. IMO, both can give you a game, especially the lefty.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_q785guuXXc |

Ok, I can only go on what I see and what I've played, the USATT ratings do seem to be rather erratic at times, obviously more accurate the higher you go, but I've seen many 2200/2400 players who don't impress me at all. As always, its only my opinion.
The 'ex national team member' statement is just a red herring really, It depends on what national team you are talking about, and the ones listed are not exactly strong.

@roundrobin,
Thank you! 2100 would be nice.. @apw46, 2200 is just high I guess. I have to agree with roundrobin. Anyway, thank you for your observation. I'm still learning.

I wouldn't rate him as high as 2200... To be honest, his game is a bit passive and soft to be rated that high, imho.
At this moment, many former national/regional team members from other countries living in L.A. find it extremely difficult to barely maintain a 2200 rating: -Fernando Valencia at 2209 (former national team member from the Philippines) -Rudy Miranda at 2212 (many times Nicaraguan national team member) -Guillermo Morales at 2070 (Rudy's teammate at 3 World Championships) -Ramin Samari at 2229 (many times Iranian national champion) -Tim Nasseir at 2197 (former Iranian team member) -Abdon Angeles at 2214 (also from the Philippines) -Ricardo Gonzalez at 2085 (former El Salvadorean national team member) -Ellie Zainabudinova at 2188 (many times Kazakhstani national team member) -Attila Malek at 2190 (1979 U.S. National champion) All these players are still in great physical shape and with the exception of Atila, they are still in their 30s and 40s and play a lot of competitive table tennis.

You show a good connection from your serves to your opening stroke, and you have very good hand/eye co-ordination, you see the rally situation early, and constantly select the right shot. I would call you an accomplished player, top 250 in England, and USATT 2250+.
Your return of serve off a tight ball with yr F/hand is particularly good quality.
The only hole I can find is when you push long on yr b/hand balls that could be attacked, and let the other guy in.

I think you can compete pretty well with a number of 2050-2150 players at our club, depending on style matchups... So I would estimate you at 2101 to start.
