Dear Coaches and fellow forum members,
Whenever I play against older folks (Over 45) whom are penholders. I constantly got to be on my toes to avoid making mistakes from their style of play. (Close Table) They seem to play a very traditional penholder sort of game where they control you at close table and take the chance for a smash/kill. I personally play RPB, with a chinese FH rubber (H8) and a japan/european BH rubber (Tenergy/ Acuda Blue). Am so used to playing topspin games from mid to far table and usually use a forehand full swing for a loopkill. Playing with the folks aforementioned earlier, I do not have the opportunity to generate a full swing. Even if I could, it was very seldom. My BH countering was no problem as I directed balls to their far side especially to their Backhands. But for my FH, I could only do wrist flicks. And blocking with the H8 was not exactly fantastic either. Whenever I go far off the table ready to counter their incoming smash or for a full swing loop, (From my BH topspin). They block it down close to the table again. They do have alot of "dead" balls. And playing the chopping game with a hard FH rubber is a pain in the A$$. What can I do to lessen the frustration? Whenever I try to force a topspin game from service and short flicks, and ready myself further off the table. They bring me back close again or smash when they catch me out of position. I played about 12 sets. And won about 9 of them. Mainly by displacing them at close table by not generating much spin on my own as they seem to "borrow" my power/spin most of them time. Fact is I should not even be dropping a set at all... Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! |
