They're not the same, I believe. You can get the Nittaku H3 Neo from tt-japan.net

I've been diehard DHS user for almost 5 years, and this crap confuses me so much. Hahaha.

No offense directed to anybody, because everyone has experiences with this stuff and I know nobody is trying to rub anyone in the wrong direction. But the reason DHS rubbers are so confusing is because everybody thinks they know what they are talking about, but everybody says different things.

It doesn't help anybody. I can't even rely on anyone's comparisons of the rubber because everyone says completely different things. To top it off, most people making comparisons disregard other comparisons like they have the ultimate truth and the people who say differently are dummies. It couldn't POSSIBLY be the fact that everyone is different and is going to think different things.

I am really curious about all the Nittaku H3's, because the price of the good stuff has gone way up. But with like 4 different blends and 100 differing opinions, the only thing I can do is try for myself.

This is because one and the same Hurricane plays different on different blades.

Can it be that tacky is in opposition to mechanical, i.e., grippy? One is more tacky, other has more mechanical grip. Other than tackiness I cannot think of any non-mechanical properties of the rubber.

Now, I've got several old H3 topsheets and they can hold the ball over 30 sec - BUT, they have no grip at all and consequently don't bite the ball. In order to produce some spin, you have to engage deeply into the rubber, or, to use again its mechanical properties.

I don't want to ignite any h3 vs tg3 war but tg3 is thinner and softer in the top sheet than h3. I find it (tg3) a considerably better rubber. So much so that I don't think I would choose even the very best sheet of h3 over tg3 commercial. I agree with Andy and everyone else who prefers it on the tg3. All sheets of tg3 have visible pips, some more than others but always more than h3.

I also subscribe to the theory that tackiness is the same across all four rubbers h2/h3/tg3/tg2 with individual variation the only difference. That's been my experience and all neos are less tacky than all non neos and this accounts for their extra speed

There are some rubbers which are tacky and soft sponged. You'd get tacky and mechanical spin out of those, but they're going to be highly sensitive to incoming spin as well. So I wouldn't say one was the absolute opposite of the other - more that rubbers tend to use mostly one or the other in terms of spin generation.

Not sure about your old H3 sheets though. If they are still tacky, then should produce lots of spin with a pure brushing stroke. That's a bit of a mystery to me.
This was a great signature until I realised it was overrated.

People's opinions are just that - opinions. Even if forum posters claim absolute truth, I never believe 100% until I see it with my own eyes and try it for myself. And I expect the same level of caution with anything I post too. Scepticism is best!

The Nittakus look good - at least as good as Provincial H3Ns. I've never had a National sheet of H3, so I can't compare to that level. The best sheets I ever had were blue sponged, but they are just so expensive now that they're not worth it.

I used Spin Art alternative to H3. Not as stealthy on the second kick as H3, but I like it a lot better since it is consistent and tunable via Falco. The sponge is similarly hard, thus good weight transfer for quality stroke is needed as well, similar to H3.

Excellent vid - not seen this before.

If you want lots of laughs, switch on the captions and set them to auto-translate to English. Some bonkers stuff in there.

I like Spin Art a lot. It's expensive though, and not as dangerous to the opponent. Still, no need to tune it, and high constancy from sheet to sheet.

To me the alternative to H3 pro is regular H3 (NEO or not). I think pro and non-pro H3 are fundamentally the same. Both needs some tuning periodically. Sometimes the feel of H3 rubbers can be a little bit different between two sheets, which actually happens in both regular H3 and its pro versions. This is a DHS' quality control problem in general.

bump- I can't find much of anything on the Red package H3 but was thinking about buying some. That's the Nittaku H3 Japanese Sponge.

Anybody tried this?

I ended up finding a couple of things on the red package, and they were pretty negative. Sounds like it's absurdly soft.

I've only played a couple of nationals, but a very large number of provincial/NEO's and I just ordered the nittaku Square shape NEO, so I'll let you know when I get it how it goes :)

Could anyone recommend a H3 substitute that not DHS related?

many recommend vega pro including myself, but in terms of closest feel, i recently tested nittaku fastarc G-1. it feels a lot like hurricane, but output is more like tenergy (fast, high tension, grippy spin). this rubber can handle a huge amt of power. after i finish my current sheet, i will test hurricane again before deciding if i want to go back to hurricane as normal or try fastarc C-1

i just remembered i boosted the G-1 multiple times (though it had little effect like the way it does on tenergy). so, i recommend C-1 instead

my friend from shandong provincial team played it (~2300) who played 37 deg h3 neo provincial normally, which is why i formed my opinion and that i've used authentic neo national from wang liqin to compare to. he said he didn't like it personally but it was similar in quality to provincial though a different feel and actually even more consistent due to japanese specs added in the manufacturing process. most reviewers find it somewhat softer and bouncier.

i just listened to the review video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SoBd1ZIq_w. when he was comparing commercial neo to nittaku h3 neo, he said the topsheets felt about the same, but the sponge felt slightly softer, guessing ~2 deg softer, compared to 39 deg commercial (yawarakai = softer). when spinning the ball and lightly bouncing, there wasn't much difference felt in hardness. when bouncing higher, the nittaku was bouncier.

therefore, 私が正解した!! like a boss Cool

Well, I may not have a complex back story involving CNT members, or Ma Long's mum. But I do have sheets of the nittaku and commercial h3 neo right here, in front of me, now.

They both have the same type of sponge. Visually, physically to the touch, identical in every way possible to tell with naked eye and finger. The nittaku has a nicer topsheet, and is less tacky, but that's it. I'd put the nittaku sponge at 39deg as a guess.

I haven't had time to play properly with the nittaku, but just bouncing a ball on it shows that it is indeed bouncier than commercial. But I would expect that with the reduced tackiness, and I've had this experience with good provincial sheets too.

If you really want to convince people, post a link to an official source which mentions a jap sponge. I think you're just confusing this with the earlier nittaku h3 sheets which did have jap sponges, back in the pre-neo days.
This was a great signature until I realised it was overrated.

Probably some fake H3 Provincial. But be warned, DHS is faking the fake DHS rubbers, and selling its own high-priced rubbers at a very reduced price.
