Is he injured or something?  Been a no show for the last 3-4 months?

Ah makes sense, he's a guaranteed pick for CNT for the olympics right?

I am 99% sure he is going to play.  He played doubles at the World Team Cup for a reason.   He needs the points from this event to keep his ranking up going into the Olympic year.

It'll be interesting to see Ma Long's shape. He's not played in months again, I believe. Hopefully his knee injury didn't come back Ermm

The news is that the videos will be streamed with 5G tech. Not sure what that means, but it is said that you can see the ball as the players see.

Will see tonight.

It means that one or more parts of the hard wired video transmission chain has been replaced by 5G wireless cellular gear. A 5G equipment company like Huawei or ZTE is probably sponsoring this as a technology demo.

This means if something goes wrong, there will be another set of equipment to troubleshoot. Of course, wireless always works perfectly............

Solid win for Kanak over veteran Omar Assar to get into the main draw. He has gradually played better against Hugo so an upset is possible though not probable.

If a 28-year old is a "veteran", what do you call Timo or Vladi?

There are varying degrees of veteran. The point is he's been playing senior events for 11 years now so has plenty of experience on the pro tour. Thus, a really good win for Kanak. He's progressing nicely.

Haven't seen Ma Long playing for ages. Sure glad to see him playing again.
Hope his injury won't re-appear.

"If a 28-year old is a "veteran", what do you call Timo or Vladi?"

Actually, yes a 28 yo, in Table Tennis IS a veteran, like in many other sports, the shell life of a sports figure is quite brief. Players like Timo and Vladi are in fact somewhat rare. I do welcome the fact that we still see pros playing after 30, like the ones mentioned. Waldner played well after 30, but his performance did decline. You can't use examples like Timo, who is playing very well these days, perhaps better than ever. He is an anomaly. Using anomalies as an argument is in fact using the "Fallacy of Accident". Might wanna google that to see what it is.

In TT and other physically demanding sports, you reach your peak at around your mid 20's. Not a hard rule, or a universal rule with no exceptions, but that's the conventional wisdom.

Testing VRS for Men's World Cup 2019

Quote    7.14 Video review system
The CEO, Mr. Steve Dainton, stated that a tender process was run to identify a company for
implementing Table Tennis Review.   The idea had been floated for many years but after some
issues at the WTTC and after discussion with Mr Maehara, it was agreed that it was important,
and the process was speeded-up.   Several bids were received and after an evaluation process
one company was identified as the most suitable option for testing at the Men’s World Cup.   If
the tests are positive, the plan would be to fully implement the system at the World Tour Grand
Finals.
Mr. Dainton mentioned that the implementation is done using 10 cameras and it’s a combination
of visual animations and real images, depending on the type of challenge.   Challenges will be for
a range of items like edge balls, nets, double strikes, service, toss etc.
The short-term intention is to only use TTR for players to be entitled to challenge an umpire’s
call/decision with a limit in the number of challenges (2 or 3 tbc, with the number of challenges
a player has being kept as far as he/she gets a positive review of the challenge).

I genuinely loled at this match. Gauzy was sooo pissed off that a noname was just beating him and making him run and look bad hahaha...

Loved Sathiyan's playing style, he has quite the deceptive FH, the timing of that FH and surprising power just throws everyone off. The BH is just like a wall. Definitely a nightmare for anyone to play against...

Gauzy vs ML.

The 6th game, Gauzy actually had several game points, but couldn't make it.
Ended up losing to ML, 2-4.

Man, Lin Yun-Ju is impressive against Karlsson Kristian.
---------------------
After losing 3 games in a row, Kristian woke up and won the 4th game by a big margin (11-4.)

Lin vs Karlsson:  Now 3-1.
