There is no best BTY blade. However there is one for YOU ! That's their strengh. They have such a wide range od product that there should be one meeting you exact needs. Ex : you're a newbie in the sport, take primorac off -. You're getting better, go for boll forte or legout. You're hooked, can't live w/o TT, go for TBS, Maze, Kreanga etc...You're a looper, a defender, a hitter, whatever you want, they have it ! It's very good quality, rather consistent and widely sold all over the world. That said, the other manufacters are not so bad either...

Maze is at least as good as TBS. Balsa carbo X5 rocks. Primorac carbon and Schlager carbon are beloved by their owner. Same as Sardius, gergerly, Iolite, Viscaria. Odd topic...

I'm guessing either the Sardius or the TBS. Butterfly's arylate/carbon blades are the best in the world after all.

I hope one day the "best equipment" topics will stop appearing on this forum, though it's probably my wishfull thinking.
IMO, there's no such thing as "best blade", "best rubber", "best shoe", "best sock", "best table", "best net", "best glue", "best ball" or "best anything" as it relates to equipment, though many might have their FAVORITE or MOST SUITABLE gear. |

Don't fool yourself. There's really a best blade. Just take a poll on the pros. The blade that most of them play IS the BEST blade. At the pro level, the strokes aren't all that different from each other as they all converge to perfection. The blade that most of them pick would be the fittest one for the sport.

... and the BEST blade award goes to ... I respectfully disagree with you point that ".. the strokes aren't all that different from each other ...". Being around TT for over 30 years (including few years as semi-pro in Europe) I've seen hundreds of professional players live and on video with different playing styles and different techniques and strokes, which might affect equipment preference (e.g. heavier/harder blades for power players with wide strokes). Based on my experience (I haven't taken the poll though), I believe, that vast majority of competitive/professional players would rather say "this is my favorite blade" or "this blade suits me best" rather than saying "this is the best blade". Would you say that Matsush*ta or Boll play with inferior equipment because very few pro players choose to play with their blades? Ps. I typically hear best blade/rubber discussions among beginners who believe that the most efficient way to improve their game is to have the "best equipment". |

In search for the relatively-speaking best blade, I would stay away from any individual case. Say, after polling the top 100 players in the world, it turns out that 60 of them use this xyz blade, wouldn't this xyz blade deserves to be given the best blade award?

VictorK wow you really know a lot about tt. i agree with you. yes blade do affect a lot. pro players stroke are really different. legout is the best example. there is no best blade.it is what suit u that is important. my coach uses stiga offensive classic, i dunno the name of the blade, it's a penhold blade made in the 38mm ball era. he said it is not a very good blade but he says it gives him a lot of feel.

IMO, if that was the case it would deserve the "most popular blade" - not necessarily the "best blade" award. I'm not an equipment expert, but I believe that if you looked at blades used by top 100 players you'd probably find that very few players use the same blade. To examplify my point, I did some digging and found an old (and most likely inaccurate) list of world-class players and blades they use (see below). Looking at the list can we say which of the blades is the BEST, or even the MOST POPULAR? J-O Waldner (SWE) Waldner Senso Carbon Kong Linghui (CHN) Kong Special Vladamir Samsonov (BLR) Samsonov Alpha Liu Gouliang (CHN) Clipper Wood WRB Zoran Primorac (CRO) Primorac Carbon Peter Karlsson (SWE) Stiga Allround Classic WRB Kim Taek Soo (KOR) Cypress PenHolder Jorg Rosskopf (GER) Rosskopf Viva J.M. Saive (BEL) Andro Kinetic OFF+ Ding Song (CHN) Double Happiness J.P. Gatien (FRA) Gatien Extra 3D Ma Wenge (CHN) Avalox 5-ply Johnny Huang (CAN) Avalox 7-ply Jorgen Persson (SWE) Persson Powerplay Ma Lin (CHN) Yasaka Gatien Extra Timo Boll(GER) Timo Boll Spirit Ryu Seung Min Penholder Kim Teak Soo Michael Maze(DEN) Michael Maze OFF Joo Se Hyuk(KOR) Spezial All+ Werner Schager(AUT) Werner Schlager Carbon OFF+ |
