Hi,
I've been playing table tennis at (and after) work for the last 8 months or so. After trying a guys butterfly racket I noticed how different it was (easier to control/add spin). Now I want to buy my own. This website says the 2040 racket is good~ http://oneofakindtrading.com.au/pre-made_bats.htm I can't seem to find reliable info about weights anywhere though (strange when people are selling online & dont list the weights besides total packaging weight...) other than that the 2060 is lighter than the 2040. Looking at tabletennisdb it seems some 729 rubbers are very good & others not so much~ Does anyone know what rubbers the 2060 racket has? Has anyone tried this racket before? Thoughts? Thanks for any info Edited by Dird - 05/29/2012 at 3:31am |

Hmm. IIRC this is a 5wood/2 carbon blade that has harder 729 sponged rubber on it. The feel will likely be pretty different from that BTY blade you tried.
Harder rubber/sponge is more stable for things like pushing and certain types of all out attacks, but less forgiving on medium strength and out of position shots. |

hmmm how much is a bat like this?? a BTY blade is quite different to this one just so you know. if you want a real bat, find a blade and 2 sheets of rubber and put it together...
obviously i am not a fan of pre made... you can buy decent 729 ritc rubber for $6 or so and a blade for about $15 or buy a 2nd from this forum.

I agree. It's better to buy a blade, get 729 in black on the forehand, and get a softer rubber (maybe focus 3 snipe?) for the backhand. Buy some VOC free water based glue and put it together.

Perhaps you could contact Cole (http://www.colestt.com) - he can get you set up with some stuff that is "just right for you" at a really good price. Just contact him and explain your situation.

Why are you so against premade? My friend uses 2040 and plays great with it
What kind of blade/rubbers would you suggest & how would this be different from default double fishes that can be found everywhere?~ or different to the 2040/2060~ I bought one racket before ($6~) but didnt like it because it was too light & made a bad sound (padding too thin I guess). My backhand sucks & I don't like back spin, normally just try FH topspin (hitting the net most the time :<) The 2060 will cost me around 5uk pounds, around $6.50 i think...I live in China so it's cheaper~ |

Don't go for Chinese brand until you have tried a more reputed one such as Andro, Butterfly, Darker, Donic, Xiom, Yasaka. You will sure to feel the vast difference.

Why not try a Chinese brand first? They're well known for copying ideas, I'm sure they have a decent copy of some Butterfly racket at a fraction of the price?~

Do they also copy BTY premade? I doubt it, so still you will need a racket and two rubbers separately, Yinhe is a more famous copycat, get a MC something, 729 08 FH and sky wing BH, less than $35 all inclusive...

If the descriptions are correct, the 2060 will have long pips on one side, so it'll be VERY different from the 2040. Don't listen to the people prejudiced against premades, they're perfectly fine as starter rackets, whether you're just playing for fun or you want to eventually play competitively. I personally started with the DHS X4002 premade racket, but the 2040 looks like it'll work just fine too. As long as you don't get a premade that's TOO crappy, like those cheap Halex or Sportscraft rackets, you'll advance just fine.

I had a "joerex" before :x long pips are slower right?
20gbp for a mark V :s I could get a yinhe mc2 + 729-08 ES + 729 sky king for about 15gbp...i could also have focus 2 + 755 for the same price~ would these really be better than a 2040 though? how? |

Both skywing and 755 will be fine if you don't intend to use you BH at all...Most people use skywing because it's light weight, don't use 755 if you want to develop regular BH blocking/hitting strokes.
Don't know how this will be better than 2040 to you now, but if you seriously want to get better you can still sit on this setup for quite some time. 2040 is only 5gbp or even less, if you only play for fun you don't need to throw in another 10gbp for that combo |

755 is LP, so you can't just block and hit like using inverted.
I already gave you my recommendation, MC-2+729 08+skyking will be around 150rmb from taobao |

You "recommend" it but then say "skywing will be fine if you don't intend to use you BH at all"...

I still don't know you are SH or PH? For single sided penholders skyking is good enough for occasional hits, if you are SH you may also start with it, it's tacky though but except lacking power and speed I don't find major problems with skyking at that price range.
What I said above was that a lot people don't even use their skyking but it doesn't mean it's not playable. |
