A question popped into my head whilst watching the table tennis at London 2012 earlier (and I couldn't find the answer in a search): which blade manufacturer can be credited as having its blades used most by World Champions? With your help, I'd like to make a list. We can stick with World Championships for now, but if you do know the blades used by Olympic Champions, do chime in. Note that we're only interested in the blades that were used during a winning World Championships (so, Wang Liqin may have used a Rosewood V, but he wasn't using it when he won any of his 3 world titles). If we can answer it all the way back to 1927, that would be fantastic! When you post any additions and/or corrections, I'll update this master list:

1999- Liu Guoliang- Clipper Wood
1997- Waldner- was he using Nittaku at this point?
1995- Kong Linghui- P500
1993- Gatien- Stiga Gatien? Unsure if he was with Yasaka at that point.
1991- Persson- Old Persson powerplay?
1989- One of the banda waldner's (there are a lot of them)
1985-87- Jiang Jialiang- Shunfeng 50

I know Seiji Ono used butterfly and I think Kohno used TSP (which is why TSP made the Birmingham 77 blade, to commemorate Kohno's achievement. Xi Enting also used the Shunfeng 50. He gave his to Jiang after Jiang broke his bat, which is why if you watch video from 83/85 to 87, it looks like Jiang is using two completely different blades.

Thanks, liXiao, very helpful. What brand was the Shunfeng 50? I've not heard of it. I'll ask other to confirm or otherwise the older ones - perhaps someone has better knowledge of the olden days than us!

Gatien was using a Stiga AE when he won the '93 WTTC. He signed to Yasaka afterwards.

List updated.

I wrote down all the Men's Singles World Champions from the past 50 years in a more structured way.
I also filled in the information you guys already provided, and added some more that I think is correct.
To add or correct the list, just do the following:

2) Paste it into your comment box
3) Make your additions and/or corrections

I'm pretty sure he played with (and still does) Primorac Carbon that has Werner Schlager Carbon handles put onto it.

This is certainly true now; I just don't know with 100% certainty that this is what he used in 2003. It's likely, I'm sure.

I don't think that's perfect; we're just going to get the list copied and copied and copied and copied ad nauseum. People should just add the bits they want to, or correct where they think they need to. No need to copy the whole list.

And, on the interwebs, I do believe it's considered rude to effectively ignore the OP's message in threads like these. I'm not fussed, however, so do carry on - I'd just like to see the answers. I've updated the first message in this thread.

No, honestly, my apologies. I'm just grumpy after a looooooooong day at work! Your list is an awful lot better than mine, and I've appropriated it for the first in this thread. Smile
