IMO the key to the shot is complete relaxation and emphasis on throwing your racket FORWARD through the shot.
You don't need to think about diving to the left, as the reason that happens is that when the front hits the floor you can't go forward any more so your momentum carries you to your left and causes your waist to turn. You'll go left anyway. Incorrect analysis leads many to think that the waist turn is the source of the power, when really the key is the back knee plus relaxation, plus waist, shoulder, arm, adding their bit at the right time Edited by pingpongpaddy - 11/24/2013 at 7:26pm |

Am I confused isn't hunkeelin the high level coach who was going to teach players how to play penhold?
well to me it's just about practicing with high level guidence and spending many hours in practice, then trying to continue this high level power shots against backspin, blocks, topspins and the put it all together into one's game We can't realy just get any real level advancement from some social players TT forum members advice, and then ...................Eureka all done and dusted, I'm not saying there is not good advice in here, it's just about the hours of sweat

I "thought" I know how to do it, but the shot is not what I wanted. I can get the shot over the table with good amount of spin and speed. However, the quality is far off from what I was aiming for, and I am starting to doubt myself whether I am doing things correctly. Btw don't look down on people in this forum. There're real high level coach that participate in here. I am no "high level coach". I am, however, an average young coach that likes to talk shit and make himself looks like an idiot. I apologize to everyone experienced my fanatic behavior few months ago. It was pathetic and please let that brush off like rain on your windshields. People who use to smack me in this forum helped me out and I am grateful. Forgive me as I am young and I don't think twice before I type.

Especially with respect to this particular shot, which arguably demands more fitness, footwork and general athleticism than anything else in the sport. Sometimes you just have to know what is in the realm of possible. So coach, take this little self-assessment quiz: Your ball has gone into the next court, which is vacant. When you go to retrieve it, do you (a) jump over the barrier without giving any thought to it? (b) step over it? (c) slide the barrier out of the way? (d) hope the nice person on the far court will get the ball for you while you grab a drink? (e) say scr3w it, I have a whole box of balls? Unless your answer is (a), you should work on your short game, or switch to shakehand so you can have a backhand and not have to worry so much about balls going to your left. Actually a less sarcastic response, if you insist on trying to make this shot, is to try videotaping yourself. You may see what is happening. Chances are you are not moving far enough to your left, very possibly because very few people are able to do it without training it constantly. What you will find is what you think you are doing is not really what is happening--the difference between "feel" and "real" as one very high player once used to tell me all the time. |

pay attention to his leg movements. Some of that power and balance comes from there. Pretty sure it takes years to master that with the proper fitness preparations.
