I just posted this in another thread, but 'm reposting here, so people not following that disccusion can read this. To the organizers (and everybody else too!):
We should really take advantage of this tournament and share the word with non players as well. This is a great chance to introduce people to what the sport really is, since we don't usually have this caliber of players in an LA tourney. I haven't really seen any advertising outside the TT world. Some radio ads on public radio would help, or at least trying to make it more viral. The website doesn't have the option to Share on Facebook, Twitter, etc. I just posted about the LA Open on my FB page, but I just realize the video on the main page doesn't work. It would be a good idea to fix this, so people curious about it can at least see some good clips. There's still one more week, lets try to spread the word!!! |

If you live in LA, you can put flyers around the area. Thats how I went to my first tournament.

I told everyone I know in the venue I normally play at. I practically told 50 people so far.

Churches might be a good place to put some flyers up if they allow it. A lot of churches have a ping pong table somewhere.
Schools and businesses may have some results also.

That's good, although I'm referring more to the non-table tennis crowd. I'm sure we'll see the same faces as always. I'm just wishing we could use this opportunity to promote the sport a bit.

I posted just the website on my FB page: http://laopen2011.com/ It doesn't really have a share options which would've have people spreading the word a bit more. At this point the one thing we can do without the need of the organizers is trying to spread the world by social network. It would be great if they fix the site a bit, so that video posted worked or they could just replace it for other cool TT video. People are curious. If they check the page they could watch a good video and might get exited about watching the tournament. Hopefully the organizers are already planning to spread the news by radio or tv news....

Wow this thread got lost in oblivion pretty quick!
Come LA people, share the LAOPEN website with your friends on Facebook, etc. Lets try to get some kind of public. I sent an email to the organizers, but I got no comments about this. Still, I think we should be the one spreading the word...
