To all of you youtube video editors :-)
I'm thinking about entering "the world of video editing" by making some videos highlighting various aspects of the game like stroke techniques, footwork, services, stroke combinations, tactics etc., but I have no idea which video editing software to use Confused.

I have videos in many different formats (mainly mpg, mp4, avi, wmv, rmvb and flv), so I would prefer software which can work with all of these.

I would realy appreciate if you could let me know which software you recommend/use - and why?

I`m using PowerDirector 9, it`s quite easy to use and so far it has enabled me to edit all types of video formats. As it is only program what I have used, I cant compere it to others.

I have a couple of Macs so I use iMovie.

If your editor can generate just one format ub good quality then it should be easy to find video converters to convert to different formats.

iMovie generates .mov files but these are not compressed well I also what to convert to H264 with a .mp4 wrapper so I use ffmpegx.   ffmpegx converts the .mov to .mp4.

Apples QuickTime can also do simple trimming which is all you really need to do for publish to YouTube. I think you must pay about $30 to get the trimming and sharing features.   I may be wrong. I have had this feature for so long but I remember paying $30.

I think it is great that you want to edit your videos.   There are two things I really dislike about many TT videos.
1. The time between rallies is not edited out.
2. There is no description that tell who is playing who and who is who.   It would also be good to indicated what they are playing with.
3. It would be nice to add the score.

I have used four or five programs.   I don't use many of the features except for trim, add text, add a picture within picture and add three seconds of title. However, that should be enough for starters.

Depends on your experience, how much time you want to invest in learning how to use the software (and possibly money paying for training dvd's or lessons) and what type of functionality you need.

I use Premier Pro and have done since version 6.5 quite a few years ago.  Only recently upgraded to version CS5.5.  Reason for the upgrade - I now use cameras which record in different formats and with Premier Pro CS5.5 (and a couple of earlier versions I think), you can edit many different formats in the same timeline without having to change their recording format into one style eg avi.  This means I can save time in not having to convert video formats (previously long winded, time consuming and frustrating) also edit using compressed video formats.  It's professional package and very expensive (comparatively) but for what I do it saves me lots of time and is very versitle and very very important, it's quite stable.

Other things it will let you do is include / design titles (and you have a lot of control over them and their format), adjust opacity, multi camera edit, screen in screen, key out backdrops allowing video overlay, adjust sound (although I master the sound in Adobe Audition which it interacts with), slow motion, has multiple effects, muliple format export options and many many many more bits of functionality.  It took me a long time to learn how to use the previous versions and I've yet to start to learn about all the functionality in the latest version and I know it will take quite a while to do that.  Especially frustrating when you've video footage filmed and ready to be edited Cry. If you use a programme like this be prepared to invest the time to use it properly, and know in advance what it can do and that's what you need or it's simply not cost effective and is "video overkill".

Others I've used in the past include virtual dub (free) and video convertor factory.  Virtual dub allows basic edits and is excellent at converting and working with lots of different types of formats (but not at the same time).  Video conveter factory was a quick and easy way of converting the avi videos I'd done in to a format suitable for youtube.

I use Pinnacle 12 myself. It is quite easy to learn and navigate. I would recommend you this one. But if something is wrong with the original file I always have Sony Vegas Pro 9 and Cyberlink Power Director in substitute. Greetings Stef Smile

Thank you all for your input.

I think that I will go with the Pinnacle Studio. Does it work with flv (from ittv) and rmvb videos (from bokett) also? Or do I need a video converter too?

Hey all :)

I use Sony Vegas 10 HD, it handles many file formats espicially the new HD formats in town. However, as GECA and TTCountenance have said, pinnacle is easy to use so you may want to start out with that. Good luck, PM for help :)

There is nothing better for the free software hungry person for your matter.

i tried free studio from dvdvideosoft

but under the dub software where i try to trim out sections of videos sometimes it cuts away more than i asked it to, it is very strange...

i'm still thinking if it's worth 60 pounds for the pinnacle but i will use it rarely anyway

Here's a recent article on the subject.
http://www.techradar.com/news/software/applications/best-free-video-editing-software-9-top-programs-you-should-download-1136264

Off-topic;
Lots of buttons are non-functional.
Search does not work.
The simple reply does not work, I have to use the advanced arrow.
The edit button (of previous post) does not work.
Now I notice that the insert hyperlink button is non-functional.
I use Mozilla on Windows 7, if that helps.

Yes...

Also you might find your machine infected with a DDOS robot that takes part in an attack without you knowing or becomes a proxy agent for malicious hacking activity...

I wish someone had recommended Lossless cut to me before. Perfect for cutting a sports match [such as TT], exceptionally quickly. Also, free.
