I saw this for sale on ebay. It was called the Grand Nature Series, but it looks like a provincial (6 edges). But it has a different packaging. Anybody ever see this or know what it is?

Here's the pic:  http://www.ebay.com/itm/150754616846?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

I had wondered that myself, but I have never seen or heard of the original hurricane. Plus, it has the same 6 points like the provinical hurricanes, as opposed to the 8 points that commercial ones have....Check out the pic below

That is the original Hurricane, I don't think it's been in production for a long time but you still see it for sale sometimes

Any reviews on this forum for it? Or do you know anything about it, bluebucket?

I agree with Bluebucket that it is the original Hurricane.  As far as playing differences I think it had a slightly softer sponge, other than it's too hard to remember.

Yea, earlier today I searched this forum and found a thread that had the same pic, calling it hurricane 1, but nobody could say how it played. That's what I'm really curious about now....might have to order some, but the budget is tight since I'm looking for a new blade :p

These are not guesses.

That is the original Hurricane which was discontinued after Hurricane 2 and 3 were launched.

Likely, those sheets of rubber were manufactured before 2008; I haven't seen them available for sale for years.

$40 for a pair of 4+ year old rubber sheets is a ridiculous price to pay, IMHO.

Thanks, icontek. I really am curious about it, tho. Not sure if a want to purchase these, or just get a Nittaku Neo H3 LOL

I'm looking for a nice and powerful, yet very spinny rubber for the FH, as Palio Thor's let me down. So I thought about going back to some Hurricanes since they always provide great spin, and then saw these original ones, so I had to ask the forum about it...

How was Thor's a let down exactly?

I do agree that there is something special about the Hurricane line (likely the spin variation due to disharmony between tacky spin and elastic spin) that causes opponents to misread and mish*t returns...

Well, For me, Thor's def had the speed and feel I was looking for, but I had trouble with getting a nice and spinny loop because the sponge is too hard to hold the ball like a softer tensor, but the topsheet was not really tacky enough to do it either Angry. And what surprised me was that all of the reviews on tabletennisdb said it was tacky (like 7/10), but I found it to be just slightly (like 3/10, a 10 being geospin tacky or Blue Lucifer, and Hurricanes being 7/10). Now, I don't know if it had to do with me ordering it from ttnpp and them not having good products (but I think they do), but the sponge was too hard to grip the ball and the topsheet is not tacky enough to grip it very well, so it was a let down. However, I do think I will keep it for the backhand, since I like a fast, chines-style quick attack backhand with a compact stroke that is not too sensitive to incoming spin, and I think Thor's suits this fairly well. So yea, that is the story on my experience with Thor's LOL

Thanks for the clarification on Thor's.

I contacted the eBay seller - according to her:

"the numbers on the back of the rubber are 05012994 (red) and 03081415 (black)."

That means the black was manufactured in Jan of 2005 and the Red was manufactured in August of 2003.

I wonder how dry the sponge is.

Wow, I had emailed her weeks ago about the rubbers, and never got a response, so I'm glad you did. Yea, the rubbers must definitely be dried up pretty badly. I ended up ordering the Nittaku H3 Neo.

What's strange is that in the last week the Thor's seems to have gained some grip and is producing spinnier shots, but still not on the level that I want. I still say it's great for my BH, and it is definitely a good rubber, no doubt about that. But I can't keep EJ'ing till I'm broke, so let's hope the H3 satisfies me enough for the time being LOL
