I agree he is too far back but for the robot it is probably about right.
Real chopped balls, one that have more strong backspin relative to the forward speed, don't drop as much don't bounce forward or "stand up" because of the friction of the table.  My practice partner seems to always have a little side spin on the ball to so the ball changes direction.  That is part of the trick, you must be in the right position but usually there is plenty of time to get there with chopped balls.

The speed and spin are related because there is only one throw wheel on a Newgy.   It is ALMOST impossible to get high back spin without high speed so the ball will tend to bounce forward more on a Newgy than with a good chopper. Practicing looping backspin balls against a Newgy as you are doing is good for starters but you should really find a chopper or someone that is willing to chop.

I find that timing is the real trick.   Often the high back spin ball "stands up" and doesn't bounce forward as I expect.   I must resist the urge to reach forward to hit the ball because my stroke will be too forward and not enough up.  I must wait.   It is this part of looping back chopped balls that you are missing out on when just practicing with a Newgy.

BTW,  when practicing looping chopped balls with a Newgy I place the Newgy back about 10-12 ft from the table and turn the speed up to about 24 to 25.  The head must be point up quite a bit. Program the head to move back and forth a bit.  Now the balls will slow down due to the air resistance relative to the back spin so  the the bounce is more realistic.   Because the head move back and forth I must move.  I also try to loop the balls so that they go back into the Newgy's net 10 ft behind the table.
