I was the first guy who played defensive chopping in my club. Any new attacking player has hard time against me, but slowly they start returning my chops because they get used to it. Recently I noticed, my chopping is not generating as much spin like Joo Se Hyuk does, and that may be the reason, they can smash my chops. If you are a chopper, what is the angle to the ball at the point of contact. I may be wrong, but I noticed Joo has a 45 degree point of contact with the ball, and he brushes the paddle with the ball from 45 to flat 0 degree before releasing, and has a complete follow through. What do you guys think about generating maximum spin while chopping? |

If they're smashing your chops, you're also probably not keeping them low enough.

First, try switching to pips on the backhand and a tacky rubber on the forehand. Then build up your technique; there's a reason almost all choppers in the world use a tacky rubber on their forehand.

I agree that my shots are sometimes high, this especially happens against an anti-spin player. |

are your chops going to the last 3-4 inches? If not they are bad length for high level play. Often in trying to push low defenders play their supposed long backspin short, which is fatal.
In chopping once the topspinner is in please diferentiate your stroke: when taking the ball rising- steep chop please. International coaches recommend mastering this one where the the attackers time is reduced. when taking the at peak - less steep when taking ball near the floor nearly horizontal then get feel for all in between. Precisely what yr stroke angle will be will depend on your height I dont agree that you have to use Long pimples or anti, but you might consider sp on one side and a tacky smooth rubber. But the main thing is to get a good stroke using whole body in stroke. Using an oversize or midsize racket is also great for defenders as it adds to stability of stroke. |

1. focus on on just getting the ball back.
- fast - spinny - wide angles - center 2. focus on getting the ball back with heavy spin. - follow through - start with the blade high 3. focus on getting the ball back just over the net - with spin - block 4. focus on placement - at the end of the table - drop early - wide angles - center |

i'd say get a (much) slower blade and (much) slower rubber, then work on your strokes

I recommend that you use thinner sponge. 1.0 sponge works for me and follow through when contacting the ball. I guarantee you more underspin. I hope this helps.

I was thinking the same thing...part of your problem is the ball is shooting of your schlager carbon too fast before it even generates sufficient spin |

I am no chopper whatsoever but I have problems when they vary the amount of spin one minute your loop is long and the next it is in the net,if you always try get max spin then you are very predictable. just my 2 cents |

The Bryce rubber is not meant for chopping and you will never get the max spin on that rubber when chopping forehand.

I switched to FLINT III, it helps me a lot in the chopping. Now I started my offensive game also, so I balance both chops and attack.
