Hey guys, what type of blade is best for playing with up at the table?

Must be good for serving, pushing, blocking and more suited to driving or over the table type of loops that typical mid-distance looper blades.

Should the blade be stiffer than a typical loopers blade and why?

Any models that suit that profile?  If possible give examples of top makes that are "standard" for that type of game and then also some Chinese alternatives if possible.

you should go for a stiffer blade not too stiff though. Most off- are too soft for over the table play, not good enough touch and too much dwell time. Nittaku violin is the best blade for close to the table play that ive tried, but its really expensive, u can get it for $120 or up to $150 depends where u shop. Its great for everything u said pushing, serving, loops over the table and especially blocking. i also find u can keep the ball lower too with it and do both slow shots and fast shots easy with it. But the handle is really thin so if u hate really thin handles dont buy. I love thin handles u get more feel of the ball with them and i find them more comfortable. If u don't want the nittaku violin there is other great blades for over the table play just makes sure u get something fairly stiff and i also find with the violin medium to harder rubber goes better with it it makes a bigger impact on the blade , plus if ur close to the table soft rubber is bad for slow, touch shots blocking etc.... I would get medium very spinny rubber if i was you.

we can look at it in another perspective and see what the pros that play close to the table use.
1) hao shuai - avalox p700
2) ma lin - yasaka ma lin carbon/ yasaka gatien extra (previously)
3) kong linghui - butterfly kong linghui special
4) wang hao - dhs dipper / yasaka gatien extra
5) ma long - nittaku acoustic
6) liu guoliang - stiga clipper/ avalox p700

so.. we've got carbon, stiff wood, soft wood, carbon/arylate, hm.... seems like an odd mix. what do these players have in common?
1) they like to play the close to the table
2) They use tacky chinese rubber.. H3 and Globe 999

.. therefore I'm concluding that it's the rubber that matters and not the blade. This makes sense because a rubber like h3 is not very bouncy, and hence better for controlling the short game. So if you want to play close to the table, focus on the rubber, pick any blade that you feel comfortable with.

you can try the 729 cream mrs and godfavored. They're fairly spinny and have a medium-hard sponge. But Cole_ely should be the expert to consult about 729 rubbers.
