A very good player, and I wish her nothing but the best, but I'd reserve the word prodigy for someone who actually is a prodigy.  Mima Ito and Harimoto both had ITTF Pro Tour wins at age 14.  LSW, Zhang Yining, Ma Long, FZD among others I would consider prodigies.

yes but a lot of the western general public dont even know abotu tt bieng a real sport so any professional style youngster will look like a prodigy.

Also its important to make these claims so that the sport gets good funding, in a struggling sport in the USA it would be unwise to say "our athletes are improving but on the whole are quite middling for a countries top pro" - kanak et al have made huge steps forwards for USA table tennis on the whole and it's nice to be inspiring even if it means bieng a little loose with the hyperbole.

we do it here in the UK too. I've seen some questionable hype, but its fun
