Hi all. Growing up I played a fair amount of table tennis in my parent's basement on less than optimal equipment. Now that I have my own basement I'd like to get back into playing again. I don't play competitively or anything like that but I am interested in getting something that will last and provide consistent play (my parent's old table had some irregularities that I often referred to as "home field advantage" :D ). Can you guys provide any feedback here?

I'm in the US so keep that in mind if availability comes into play. I'm considering this table, http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00617437000P?vName=Fitness+%26+Sports&cName=Game+Room&sName=Table+Tennis but I'm really not sure if it's a good deal or not. I like that it has a 1" top and it looks like it has a sturdy frame compared to similarly priced tables. I'm open to other options - I'm just looking to get the most table I can for my money.

One of my main issues is that I pretty much have to order this table online - the local stores don't seem to keep tables out and there certainly aren't any stores that cater to this sort of thing (just run of the mill sporting goods stores). B/c of this it is difficult to gauge quality since I can't actually see the table in person.

Thanks in advance

To be honest, I like that butterfly home rollaway or any of the double fish on tabletennis.net's shopping page. They are cheaper and awesome looking.

For a similar price why not go up to a 1" surface though?  Also, the structure underneath that butterfly table doesn't look nearly as strong as the structure beneath the table I linked.  I sort of get the sense that in large part you pay for the brand name (butterfly, joola, stiga, etc.).  I was looking at stigas at first but I kept hearing about missing parts, brackets being mounted backwards and other quality issues (this is for the non-high end stiga tables) which makes me wonder if these brands are worth it unless you are looking at going for the higher end tables ($800+ range).

The table you posted was the table I tried to get when I started playing, however it had been discontinued at the time. :/
As you've mentioned it looks really sturdy and the 1" top is great. I would've bought it if I could've found it.
I ended up getting this one:
Although, it was only $500 when I bought it...http://www.hiquasports.com/pingpong/table/hi-qua-209-single-fold-tournament-table-pre-order-only.php

no the home rollaway I mention is tournament par...even if you play for years and years, you will not tell a difference in the 1/4 difference in tops...and the rollaway is definitely sturdy enough to last atleast 20 years in my opinion...I put it together in less that 2 hours by my self...I'm not trying to sell a product...I am just stating that it is really a great table... and you won't notice the difference in table top width
