You must be kidding - are you saying that Luxembourg qualified for WTTC 2008?

Final Men's singles 40+ Ding yi vs Carsten Egeholt (Denmark), last game

The first 2 games have been uploaded by somebody else (see mesatenista.net).

In the last W. Veterans 2006, Egeholt scored 3x2 against Ding Yi in the 5th round. Just before that match, Ding Yi had to fetch an ersatz racket because the referee found that his rubber was no longer legal (Spinpips perhaps??). Egeholt has played in the German Club Fulda-Maberzell, now well-known by Waldner + Persson in its team.

According to a German forum, both players had developed shoulder injuries, after a week long tournament. But the Danish performance was visibly hampered.

Men's singles 40+ semifinals Ding Yi vs Alexander Savelyev (Russia) Part 1

  http://www.megaupload.com/?d=CD3VNKVO - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=CD3VNKVO
Part 2

Savelyev, rated 2518, gives to an extremely exhausted Ding Yi a rough time. The classical all-attack FH only penhold style is certainly very demanding. An energy saving art or play is given by Juanito and Gao Jun.

In the adjacent table, the former Doubles World Champion Zoran Kalinic (Serbia) is upset by Miroslav Cecava, Czech, Veteran World Champion 2002 in the 40+ category. Kalinic is a player in a 2nd Division Austrian Club.

Yeah.. this was not a very interesting match - Egeholt was out of form with his visibly injured shoulder.

Ding Yi's semifinal match against Savelyev was much more exciting - too bad it wasn't the final.

But I think Savelyev cannot be rated 2500 - I would say 2100-2200. Same probably can be said about Ding Yi... 2300 tops, I guess.

You're joking?!

Take a look at the results for the Austrian 1. Bundesliga for 2007-8

http://cust40.vereinsmeier.com/de/menu_2/meisterschaft-cup/bundesligen/ergebnisse-tabellen-ranglisten3

Number 5 on the list is Ding Yi W48, L15 - ahead of Bernhard Presslmeyer WR171, Stefan Fegerl WR328 and rising very rapidly, Xiaoquan Feng WR253, and Peter Musko WR335, to name just a few folk.

A US 2100-2200 rated player might just scrape in at number 4 (of 4) of an Oberliga team (4th level after 1 and 2 Bundesliga and Landesliga, or be a solid Unterliga player... no higher.

Sorry if that sounds a little harsh to my American friends, but the gulf is as wide as the Atlantic is broad.

First of all, I said 2300 for Ding Yi... secondly I was simply judging by his game at WVC. A 2300 US rated player ... that would be Wally Green, for instance, of the guys I saw play in tournaments recently. It seemed to me (again, only judging by the video clips from this thread) that Wally could be at least equal to Ding Yi or even better...

Yeh dude, I'm afraid you may have got that one horribly wrong, at the tail end of 2005 Ding Yi was still around 100 in the world and just check out his results in league and stuff!

Guys, please take into account that I simply watched the videos from this thread and judged solely by his play at WVC in Rio-de-Janeiro (from these three videos).

He might have been in worse shape than he is usually or smth... or perhaps I am hallucinating...

Hmm... that doesn't sound convincing enough for me... but who knows.

Are you judging solely by his standing in Austrian league, or did you see him play or smth like that?

OK, then... I just want to repeat that this was the first time I ever heard about the guy and all the info I had was the videos from WVC - so I am absolutely unbiased here and have no axe to grind whatsoever. Please believe me when I reiterate that in these videos he plays at 2300 level. However, I also found a report that both Ding Yi and Egerholt had some shoulder problems by the end of the tournament (I think it was mentioned here as well) - that, of course, could have played some role in his performance (I didn't notice anything obviously wrong in his play but it could have hampered his play nonetheless).

I haven't played against or seen Ying Di, but I have trained alongside the others noted in my earlier post... they are class! (Bernhard and Peter can hold their beer too!)

I guess that appearances can be deceptive, especially on a shaky hand held video. I suspect that one might form the same impression rating-wise if you were to see a video of say, Gao Jun or He Zhi Wen and you didn't know who they were. All three players play an old-fashioned, but highly effective, Chinese style that has almost disappeared but was prevalent at the top of the world for many years. Not pretty, but hard to break down.

JimT... hope I didn't offend you!

OK, guys!

please tell me I am crazy or smth... but this level of play I can see every week in our local club (I am talking about the consolation final). And I understand that these guys could have been somewhat tired by the 5th game or they are nervous - after all, this is a World Championship .... but come on! this is a f**ing World Championship! are you saying that this is how 44- or 47-yr old veterans who supposedly are in the first or second dozen or so of the world in their age group play table tennis?

Again, I understand that many TT veterans in their 40s play way better than all of the guys who came to WVC put together - after all, JO or Persson or Jian Jaliang or many many others didn't attend so this event was mostly for the second-tier guys... but still...

Makes me want to go to the next WVC (I will be 45 in 2010) - I am sure I won't get any prizes but at least I will be able to win a few points and not embarass myself silly...

Or am I completely off the mark here? Feel free to flame on me...

No offense taken at all. He Zhi Wen kicks ass, by the way! He is just super and he would win this WVC with one eye closed and one hand tied behind his back. But really, when I watched his videos in ECL, there was no doubt in my mind that this was the guy who is in the first 40 of the world ratings...

Read above my short crazy note about consolation final, though...

I wouldn't say second tier at all there JimT, correct me if i'm wrong here, colum Slevin (semi finalist put out by the runner-up) beat Jiang Jialiang in bundesliga one time, proving he was a very high rated player, top 100 in the world at a stage.

Also, the WVC lets anyone play, no matter what standard (correct me if i'm wrong again) and there are no qualifying rounds like the normal world champs, hence why there may be some players which you feel look quite weak - which brings me to the point that it may be deceptive how good they are because of the camera...

Guys, I appreciate the responses but you are missing my points and you are  contesting statements that I never made. Let me re-state:

1) I have no idea as to the current level of Colum Slevin - he is not in the videos!!

2) I am only talking about these videos - I wasn't there at WVC so I have absolutely no idea how these guys played except for these 4-5 videos

3) naturally it is quite possible that these guys usually play much better, and that these videos do not represent their normal skills

BTW, I didn't know that anyone could participate - I thought there would be at least some pre-selection done... it seems that you only need to be a member of a ITTF-affiliated national federation, and naturally pay a fee (I guess it is a hefty one) and pay for your accomodations, tickets etc.

Too bad the next WVC is in China - if it were in Europe I would seriously think about signing up... maybe I should go to European Veterans Championships (although I wouldn't be surprised if it were a much tougher tournament!)

Ramberg was 13 times Danish champion.

Kunz was a major figure in the former CSSR, having participated six times in World's. In Calcuta '75 reached the third position teamed with his famous countyryman Milan Orlowski. Tim Boggan once described him as a "tenacious bulldog". His hardest match was against the Brazilian Biriba that  played with a badly sprainned ankle.

I was there. It was my first participation in an event of this scale.
Great experience to meet Kalinic, Neubauer, Dig yi,.... Very nice fella.
Mature people, many with college degrees, some PhDs. A Chinese American gave me his card; he's MIT graduate in engineering. It is a tradition to exchange small gifts before the match and I didn't know that - I was bare-handed. The Japanese carry a small envelope with pins and other trinkets for occasion like this (omiyagi).
If could see the podium you would see smiling faces only. The all felt winners - in being there. No sponsors, no pressure to win. There is comething magic that compels an 97 years old lady to travel from down-under, facing long lines, elevators, crowded toilets, 20 hours in a plane, into an unknown land in the tropics.

JimT,

The Consolation Final was for the plate event for those who didn't make it out of the original qualifying groups, i.e. the bottom half of the competitors who entered that age group.

To put this into context, my team mate has a USATT ranking of 2085, which he obtained from playing in the NA Teams in 2006 with a playing record of W25, L2. I suspect his ranking would have been higher had he been playing in a higher division (he's going back this year so we will see!). My team mate also played in the World Vets 50-59's in Bremen 6 months earlier in May of 2006 and didn't get out of his qualification group!

The video camera is a cruel mistress!

Best wishes,

Graeme

I can see your point, but when He Zhi Wen was playing in ECL he was playing against Schlager and other top players like Ryu Seung Min etc so naturally when they are looping 5 or 6 balls at him his style would look good as it is based on blocking and counter attacking. If HZW was to play in WVC I'm sure that his level would look alot lower as his generation don't have a power looping game. Same for DY, he would also look alot better in ECL!!

I agree - when I filmed myself playing and watched it afterwards, I was disgusted... and during the match I felt I played pretty good, but ...

Video camera does indeed strip away some illusions!

As for your mate - he could have easily, by accident, gotten a better group... it is my understanding that there are no ratings used in WVC and therefore seeding is not done. So I believe it must have been his bad luck there was a couple of better players in his group... I am pretty sure that Bremen WVC was a tougher event because more of the better European players participated. Some guys must have missed Rio-de-Janeiro WVC simply because of the expense of going to Brazil - but that's just a guess...

That's true - you play to the level of your opponents, and also you quite often can only play the game your opponents allow you. If you play a kid from basement you will very likely win but you won't show your best game, that's for sure!

This is the wrong video, it has the same code as the 65+ Doubles final video, so you have posted the same video twice by mistake, will you upload the correct one please?

Not the most interesting part of the match though.
The semis took place at the same time. I moved the camera after Ding's.
Hope somebody who has the whole scene will post it here.

Biriba was the greatest hope for a  podium. Here he is tuning his strokes to play against a chopper, a very rare breed in Brazil. Germans took most of the metals, 26 or 29 according to some sites.

As one can see, Neubauer wears some  strange type of shoes, similar to a runner's. He said he has back problems and can no longer jog daily as he mentioned in a 2006 interview.

Men'singles 70-74 Final

   http://www.megaupload.com/?d=1SMNHZ4G - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=1SMNHZ4G
Dieter Lippelt (Germany) vs Joseph Rakosnik (Czech Rep) Part 1

   http://www.megaupload.com/?d=JTBRWCRB - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=JTBRWCRB
   Part 2

A long battle between two defensive players. Concentration, stamina and mental strengh are in play. Lippelt played many years in the 1st Bundesliga and is still active. He uses a thick sponged short pips in the FH and anti in the back. In Germany, many greyhaired compete side-by-side with upcoming youngsters in lower divisions.

I am having proble in uploading part 3. The same clip turns up. Maybe someone can help me.

No. Unfortunately haven't seen his racket. Do not know whether there was a gluing area outside but no glue can was seen in the hall. In the recent Brazilian Open the pros were using lavish amount of speed; they reapply several times.

Nearly all  Asian vets are penholder but none RPB. Neubauer rubber and thick balsa blades are popular. Many still with the frictionless type. All of my 12 opponents ( 4 in singles, 8 in doubles) had long pips, except a Japanese PH who had an Mark V sticked to an 35 old relic.

Umpires and players didn't complaint about height of toss in service or thickness of rubber. A player had a hardbat with a sizable hole where his thumb rests. In the Open umpires did carry a list of allowed rubbers.

In Vet some laxaty is understandable. Overall, the spirit is  of competiveness as a sport but at the same time of congregation and celebration.

Redoya, your file is called "...Consol Final"... so is that a main final or a consolation one?

   1. Definitely there is domething wrong with my computer. I will try to fix it this weekend. You are right. The first video is from the Consolation Final.

   2. The next WVT will be held in China, in June 2010, in a city called Hohhot. It's Mayor was in Rio and participated in the 50+ category. The 2012 Champs will be in Stockholm. I believe that packages will be arranged by travel agencies.

   3. The WVT carries the prestige of being a major event sanctioned by ITTF. It is supervised by the Swaythling Club, so a certain organizational standard is expected.

   4. To make more visible my viewpoint that the WVT differs from the formal ProTour, I assembled this very short video:
     http://www.megaupload.com/?d=SEB9AYM6 - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=SEB9AYM6
The high pitched sound comes from the Russain fighter Larissa Farina.

   5. Speaking of Russia, the big surprise of this tournament was caused by Inna Tikhomirova, a fine chopper. Unknown, unseeded, she won the 40+ without droppiing a single set with great ease. Her level was above other contestants.

I think your PC is fine. I just think you named your clips differently from what is in them. My suspicion is that the only video which is missing is a part of Consolation Final in 70+. Just rename the file, put the proper description when uploading it and it should go just OK.

I am very grateful for the videos as I am sure others are as well. Thanks again!

1. Thank you for your suggestion. I will try it on Sunday.

2. It is a pity that I don't have Kalinic's video. As all the matches started at the same time I had to pick juust one. And I was betting that Ding would win in the 40+ category.

3. Indeed  Zoran has a good service. Very economical. Only his forearm and wrist are used. For somebody of his size (6'5") it would be nearly impossible to perform a dance step full body twist like Liu Guoliang.

4. Imposing but unassuming, he was much requested for photos.

The "first training session of Biriba" - that's where the second part of Minoru Kohakura vs Kosi Suzuki final is hiding !!

So, don't worry, you have uploaded them all - just under slightly different descriptions. You might want to make a new post, summarizing all the megaupload links with the proper descriptions next to them.

JimT, that's a good suggestion: a single list. I will try to do it in the end. First I am checking every entry. Duplicated entries were deleted. Some files cannot be uploaded, though, and I am trying to figure out why. I'll come to your question regarding the cost of ticket and hotel soon.

Yes. The aussies were runner-ups. The wvc 2006 champ Horst Langer from Germany didn't come because of health problems.

But Dotty got the same prize given to all champions for being the oldest participant.

The top-spinner Schmidt, Neubauer partner, won the singles in the 65+ class.

He now runs the NY International TT Center (nyittc.com) in Queens. Li was the 50+ singles champion in the WVT 2006. In Rio he finished in second.

Please, correct me if I am wrong:

   1. Romania is the birth place of Andreas Fejer, T. Ciociu, K. Kreanga, Olga Nemes, Georg Bohm,... Known in the past by its famous ruler Prince Vlad, now is in the news by the thriving economy.

   2. The Aussie with the odd name Le Van Ihn, finalist in the 65+ doubles, was a top athlete in Vietnam.

   3. A German site (tischtennis.de) lists the Bundesliga players for the coming season: 1st division:Kim Kyung Ah, Park Mi Young, Chuang Chih Yuan, Jun Hye Kyung, Georgina Pota, Kenta Matsudaira; 3rd division: Hugo Hanashiro (2008 Brazilian Nikkei champion).

I will try to answer all the questions.

First I would like to add some comments of pimpled rubbers

1. In veteran's games, europeans have a clear advantage over north, central and south americans: they have a vast experience with pimpled rubbers. They have knowledge to use them technically, tactically and how to play against them.

2. The most successfull player in the WVC's is probably Herbert Neubauer, with a total of 7 golds in singles and doubles. In Rio he used his own material (of course), Leopard 1.5 (short pips) in the FH, Super Block OX (long pips) in the BH and High Tech Plus as the blade.

3. Doktor Neubauer participated in the 2006 US Open in Charlotte, NC, with good results: gold in the 60+ and 50+ and silver in the 40+ and 30+ categories. In the 60+ he defeated George Braithwaite 3 x 0 (5,2,6).

4. Several video clips of Neubauer are available in the Youtube:
From his first dvd
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4NVmoJY2UMY&feature=related - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4NVmoJY2UMY&feature=related

from his second dvd with new rubbers

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEB3fm1LYao - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEB3fm1LYao

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMSwhYaZ6aY&feature=related - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMSwhYaZ6aY&feature=related

A short clip of Herbert playing in the Swiss National Liga (available in the Web)
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4RKOMKZJ - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4RKOMKZJ

5. According to his website, Neubauer, a former Germany's 1.Bundesliga player,  has a collection of 58 gold medals in the Swiss Championships (he was a German Diplomat in Switzerland).

6. Another German expert in long pips that was in Rio is Manfred Grumbach, former professional player, trainer (SSV Reutlingen) and author of several articles, books and seminars.

7. The biggest winner in Singles (not in doubles) is the Chinese Liang Geliang with 5 golds. He was 6 times WTTC champion and having lived for nealy two decades in Germany has lots of experience  in the european style of play. Here's a video of young Liang training

  http://www.megaupload.com/?d=YFVO1VSP - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=YFVO1VSP
Liang Geliang training video 138 mb rm
Notice his versatility and agility. It is said that the changes his rubber several times during a tournament, combining different sponges and top sheets. He is considered an allround or material player, but he chops like a chopper.

8. A little off-topic, but I cannot help mentioning the Rematch commemorating the 37th year (in June 2008) of the famous Ping Pong Diplomacy, widely covered by the american press, from NY Time to Fox News. The high point of the event in California was the match between George Braithwaite and Liang Geliang. It is true that Liang is many years his junior. Certainly China will invited George for the next WVC, but as he will be playing in the 75+ category no re-rematch can be expected. George is currently rated 2140 but probably his real level his higher. I played with him a couple of year ago at the NYTTF and, needless to say, I was mercilessly beaten. He is an orthodox player with inverted on both sides but with an extraordinary fitness (and poised manners).

1.  I had no previous experience in playing against long pips and my performance was very poor in the tournament. It was the first time that i had exchanged shots with frictionless  pips and a twiddling combination racket player. In the fourth set of my last match I was leading 7 to 3 and lost 7 to 11. The reason: I got mentally exhausted trying to ajust my strokes constantly.

2. Here is a video of Carl Prean showing his skill in racket twiddling (source: Lucioping website):

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=WJ58QYFG - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=WJ58QYFG

3. To an unexperienced spectator, a pimpled rubber match may seem a basement pingpong. The fine details and the mental struggle involved in the game are not always evident. Here is a short clip ot the Finals of the 75+ category:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=HGB50WWH - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=HGB50WWH
MS 75 final Fred Lockwood vs Stepan Stepanov mpg 65 mb

4. As I train with a newgy, which I love, but has the limitation of not being able to produce no-spin balls, I am considering setting up a return board like this one
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZlott4woSI - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZlott4woSI

I would like to get a new robot like Prakttismate.

4. There is an interesting video that teaches how to twiddle the racket:

1. Not only veteran players use long pips. As an example of the other end of age spectrum, I should mention two young players that are well-known in Europe.

2. Amelie Solja (pronounced zoh-lee-ah), rated 2436, is #1 in the European Junior Girls Ranking. In the last December 2007 World Junior Championship in Palo Alto, Cal, she, at age 16, upset the first seeded chinese player Li Xiodan in the semifinals. Amelie has been playing with Joola Drum 1.8 in the FH and Joola Fakir OX in the BH. As Fakir is in the banned list, she is trying several new rubber, among them Joola Shark (she is Joola sponsored). Last month (July 2008), in a dramatic battle she missed a match point and ended as vice-champion in the 2008 European Junior Championship (source DTTB). Videos of  Amelie Solja matches (source: ttlive.tv, broadcast live)

and another from youtube

Unlike Deng Yaping that was a forehand attacker, Amelie centers her game on the backhand, delivering long punches altered with loose balls.

3. Fabian Akerstrom, the young swede profiled here

He is training in China and will be soon playing in the Germany's 2.Bundesliga (source NoppenTest.de). It is mentioned that he was using Hallmark Original and is now testing Donic Akkadi L2.

Hi Redoya,

Thank you so much for all the links. Great stuff. Do you happen to know what blade and rubbers were used by Wolfgang Schmidt, who won the 65+ division in Rio?

Also, have you ever seen video of Florida pip player Dickie Fleisher anywhere?

3. Unfortunately I had only one spare battery and was trying to shoot very sparingly to save for more important matches. I had no connection to the organizers and was allowed to move solely along the edge of the outermost line of barriers.

Some answers:

1. I cannot recall all the pimpled rubbers that I have seen. There are many that I never heard before.

2. The majority of veteran  players seem to use pimpled rubbers. And they are average club players. In the knock out phase, in the succeeding rounds, the number tapers down and the remaining one are all players from the professional leagues; most of them are attackers with inverted rubbers. Biriba, 63, the best Brazilian veteran use norma Sriver 1.9.

3. In the warm-up table, a 77-year old gave me hard time. He is a penholder, glued to the table, using a  BTY Super-anti, blocked all my balls to wide angles using only his bodywork. A hard hit ball was returned fast far from my reach. He explained that he owns a TT Training Center and is used to play against young players and that by observing the footwork of the opponent he knows how to jam him.

4. Theresia Foldy is 62; No info about Takahashi. They are slender and in good form. In long matches between an attacker and a chopper, the attacker usually get tired ealier but it was not the case here.

5. A common side talk topic among veterans is exchange of recipes for good health. Today everyone is well informed how the lifestype can affect the longevity and how important are healthy food and physical activity.

6. Dickie Fleisher is a famous harpist and table tennis player from Florida; he's rated 2547 and I think that he uses a TSP curl long pips in the forehand. Unfortunately I never have seen any video of him. Is Richard his real name?

7. I do not have the video requested by pual

FAKE  LOOP:
1. Any veteran attacking player that has faced a solid blocker with a consistent pushing game knows how a strenuous and daunting task it can be. A full attack tactic can be suicidal.; he has to play smartly. One of the weapons is spin variation. What I will discuss here is called "fake loop" or "false topspin".

2. It is nor a new deceptive technique. Butterfly released in early 1980's a series of excellent instructional videos and one of them details How to Play a Chopper. The "fake loop" is explained and shown by former World Champion Shigeo Itoh and the defensive star Norio Takashima. (In another video the roles are reversed: Takahima set up an attack after a "fake chop".).

3. Using some free time during the Olympic games broadcast, I have assembled this short clip using the video of the match between Jun Mizutani and Kaii Yoshida in the All Japan 2008 Finals. Here it was used a ultra high speed digital camera and what seems to be a not exceptional  match turns out being extremely instructive:

   http://www.megaupload.com/?d=YXKK6USB - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=YXKK6USB
Jun Mizutani and Kaii Yoshida  mpg  61mb

4. In Japan the no-spin or floating ball is called knuckle ball. This term probably stems from "knuckleball" used in the baseball and which means a ball thrown by the pitcher with little or no spin using his (greasy?) finger knuckles.

5. It is mentioned by the sportcaster in the video that some players "like Waldner" use often this kind of stroke and that it is now being used more in Japan. In 1999 the very successful former trainer of the Borussia Dusseldorf Club, the Croatian Mario Amizic was hired by Butterfly as sport director and by the Japan's TT Federation to train the young players. His opinion: "loops with maximized speed and little variation are typical of low class players". (How important are the replays and the timely comments of any video.)!

6. Amizic lives in Germany and the whole squadron of young Japanese boys had to settle in Dusseldorf, the city of a large Japanese community (and certainly schools). This metropolis was chosen as the location of the future modern DTTZ-Deutch TischtennisZentrum.. Amizic is seen in the WTTC 2008 videos standing next to Yoshihito Miyazaki, the Japanese men's head coach and former top player (penholder).

7. Mizutani is rated 2935. Soon or later the young athletes will be confronted with the same problem of Ai Fukuhara, now 19. At 17 she passed the competitive entrance examination of the Waseda University, which has the same prestige in Japan as the Harvard in the US, left the Chinese Super League and started attending in April 2007 the sport sciences College. Ai-chan even thought, according to his father, of dropping off from college during the intensive preparation for this Olympic games. A different path was chosen by Deng Yaping. She retired from TT at 24 and went back to school. After a master's degree from the University of Nottingham, she started a doctoral program in Economics at Cambridge (and worked in the Olympics Committee).

Hi Pongology, Sandro, Theman, Thylacine,

I am very sorry for the delay. I was off for over a month.

1. Lippelt showed me his racket after the match.  I haven't payed much attention to the brand of the blade. All I can remember is that it was a regular size wood, not a semi-large type used by choppers. In his homepage one can see that he (a long ago) was a German Champion in the 1.Bundesliga. He wrote a long report on his trip across Brazil, from the southern border from Argentina to the rain forrest in the Amazons.

2. I could not solve the problem with Megaupload. For this reason I uploaded again the match between Suzuki and Kohakura. But you can get it in the this site:
http://www.kkreanga.new.fr/ - http://www.kkreanga.new.fr/

3. After watching the excellent videos of the Olympic Games, I am very interested in taking part in the next WVC in China. The organization was the best; notice that they used two extra cameras for close-ups of the contenders. I do not care being "skunked" by some veteran world champion ("there is honor  in defeat"). Only the stock market meltdown made me poorer in terms of dollar.

I will try and go only if some local Chinese friend of mine will go with me - otherwise it's a bit too intimidating for me to go alone to the country where I can easily get lost without knowing language...

Do they have a web site set up already for 2010?

1. There is a very good training video for choppers with Norio Takashima. I hope that one day BTY will allow uploading it for free to all. I am sure that Takahima himself will be happy to see that are thousands of interested players in learning his lessons.

2. If you have time read this interesting article about the Universal Library ("...the entire works of mankind ...available to all people...") published in The New York Times:
