waldner offensive and banda waldner fl were my main blades for many years.

Come to think of it, until recently (using Waldner Senso Carbon), Waldner always use simple design of "limba - spruce - ayous - spruce - limba" construction, as seen in Banda (similar to Dicon, OC, Aria, etc.). Yet, with such a simple blade, he plays GREAT !!!
Shame on us that use HIGH-TECH kryptonite blade and never become a good player (especially me included)

I never use green or red Krypronite...

BTW, I like Banda with brown handle the most. It looks simple yet CLASSIC !!

in these days with a waldner off 40, anyone can be wch.
just a good feeling and powerful wood blade.
the thing with that waldner building is that the blade helps you to do everything with incredible feeling. that is a good blade.
it is a pity, donic discontinued that blade.

I can't believe Waldner has ever used a dicon ...! It's the crapiest blade I've ever had. Sorry for being candide. But if he did, he's even better that I figure out....
I've also played for a while with WSC and sure it's an OK blade but frankly, nothing exceptional IMHO . Now, two options :
1/ Blades that are given to pros have nothing to do with what companies such as Banda or Donic are pretending being the same they are selling to us.
2/ JOW and me have complete different taste .
More probably, the correct answer should be somewhere in between these two options...

taste is plays a big role. I know quite a few guys who love the dicon.
I also know lots of players who hate it. It's just a matter of taste.

I used to have a Donic Waldner, the one that's same design as the Banda with the yellow and blue stripe. I knew lots of good players that used it but for me, that thing was just FAST for an all wood blade. I also didn't like the egg shape and it had an annoying "tonk" sound when you hit the ball. Despite the carbon layers, I had better control with the Waldner Ultra Senso Carbon. Nice collector item though.

Question: I have read this on another site's forum -- "The Donic version of the Waldner Senso Carbon has a consistent oval shaped blade face where as with the Nitakku version the face of the blade is narrower/pointier at the tip of the face." (i.e. "JO Shape") I am wondering if this is true. I am somewhat of a beginner and I have read somewhere that the "old" Donic Waldner Dicon (with the "JO Shape") was a great all around blade that one could learn/grow with. That blade is out of production if I understand correctly. I was wondering if I should pursue the Nittaku version of the Waldner Dicon then, if I wanted that kind of blade. What input can you lend to this notion? Any response will be appreciated. Thank you.

sorry i have not read this post.
Waldner offensive 40 is limba spruce ayous. around 6,2 - 6,4 mm thickness.
powerful looping blade. can play everything easy.
nexy spear is supposed to be quite similar, though i do not think it will be as good.
i ordered a spear to play with and see.

yesterday i put a t05 in the fh and sriverfx in the bh. and as i expected the set up is awsome.
that blade can be within the best wood blades at present in the market. what a powerful looping blade with feeling to do everything. just have to train because the blade provides everything one needs.
in denis table tennis world there were 2 short reviews about the blade ranking the blade 10 and 9 from 0-10. one of the guys says thickness 6,2 mm. my blade is 6,3 mm. weight is 90 gr.

i think so.
The concept is good, but i want to elaborate and know more. same layers does not mean same blade. a xiom fuga is not a hk but both are koto and spruce and ayous (hk is colored koto). and a hk07 is not a hk05. a xiom strato is not a schlager carbon but seems similar layering.
In both examples hk and sc i prefer the former ones over xiom fuga or strato.
I like Nexy, and i think his hinoki blades are selected hinoki quality but i don't know about limba spruce ayous. i pay for the blade to know. in anycase in 60 $ + shipping, i am sure one gets a good deal for the spear.

Hello bandawaldner,
congratulation for your very nice collection. I played with the Banda Waldner Blade with the brown handle many years. It was the best blade, I ever played.
The next Waldner blades from Donic are good but the Banda Blades were much better in my opinion.

Thank you for your congratulation. Yes you are true. I also think that banda waldner blades are much better than donic ones. I also use a banda waldner blade now, but it is a grey handle with blue and yellow strip. It seems harder than banda waldner with brown handle.

That is quite clearly the - Donic J.O. Waldner Offensiv blade. The follow-up to the Banda Waldner blade, when Waldner switched from Banda to Donic. It is essentially the same blade. Looks like the Anatomic handle version. Where did you find this image?

No, a company called "Woodhouse AB" makes blades for both (amongst others). A good thread to information about this is the "Where are Donic Blades made?" thread -- http://mytabletennis.net/Forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=50867&PN=2" rel="nofollow - http://mytabletennis.net/Forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=50867&PN=2

Woodhouse AB is located in Tranås, Sweden. Check your old Stiga lenses -- Alsers, Johanssons, Bengtssons, "Tickan"s, Lindh's, etc. Those will say "Made in Tranås", if they are early 90's and earlier. I don't know when Stiga stopped putting "Made in Tranås" in their lenses (Anyone?)
Stiga blades, are produced 220km away in Eskilstuna, Sweden. Eskiltuna is home to Bengt Bandstigen, who founded Banda Blades (remember those?). Banda was the blade that Waldner chose to play with, and popularized in the 80's-early 90's. Banda purchased Stiga Sports AB in 1984 and moved operations, and many good blade technicians, from Tranås to Eskilstuna. Today Stiga Sports AB is run by Bengt Bandstigen's son, Mats Bandstigen.

Here is my pre-made mid 90's J.O. Waldner Donic blade... must say it is decent blade, good feeling but bit heavy.

The Donic Waldner is limba (I have the same blade). Though that the most koto-looking limba I've ever laid eyes on The Waldner Light I believe could be koto. I read somewhere that it is "like the 'old OC'", so it may be with koto afterall.

Do you mean 1st one on 2nd row is KOTO? (I could not read from handle.) Is it The Waldner Light model?

First from the Right is the Waldner Light (purple handle). I believe that it is in fact koto.

Is the Donic Waldner Dicon the only modern day equivalent to these old 5-ply Limba Waldner Banda blades?
What else is out there (besides OSP)?

The Dicon is much stiffer than the old Donic Waldner 5-ply. The Dicon is after all rated as "nearly-stiff" on Donic's scale, while Donic's classic Waldner 5-ply is a very elastic blade. I have to concur. My Dicon feels much stiffer my old Donic Waldners. The only resemblance is the wood plies. I think for a modern day equivalent, the Donic Waldner Senso Carbon should be the closest in feel. It is rated as "speed-elastic" on Donic's scale, and it is, after all, the blade Waldner himself chooses to play with and presumably helped in designing for use with the 40mm ball.

Agreed, the Waldner Senso Carbon is close, and I'd suggest the Waldner Senso V1 (i.e. without the carbon) is the closest in feel to the original limba Waldners.

A TT shop here in Greece had once for sale a donic blade which I cry that I didn't buy it at that time...It's name was strange like "Donic carbokev" or "Donic carbokevlar" or something.I saw this in the shop at 2003 or 2004, so I don't know if it is older. Can someone who has this blade, show it please???I am in love so many years with this blade. Please if someone has it, I beg him to post some photos!

Well, it may be not the right thread here, but I got one in my collection. With very nice scaly outer ply (Koto), by the way:

I wonder what the stats would be on the "Waldner 1987 version brown handle" blade, as pictured in the fourth post of this thread? I started playing again after ~25 years and would like to know "where I am" equipmentwise. It says Speed 8+ and control 8 on the box but how would that compare to modern blades?

I think it is more of an ALL blade by today's standards with the new 40+ seamless poly-ball.

The ST handle is not as round as as the new ones and the handle is much thicker. The old ones have veneer thickness of 5,4 mm. I got one last blade of that old version. The new ones have 5,8 blade thickness, and the handle is very bad, everything nearly of it is bad.

Indeed, I have the concave handle. It is more rectangular-ish than oval. I like it a lot.
