I found this Low Odour-Contact Cement (LePage brand) at Home Depot. It is
a water-based contact adhesive and it is safe to use, it is solvent free. You
can use it indoors without worry to smell solvents while working with it. It’s
very good to glue rubber on the blade. it provides a strong bond (without
having latex) and it’s not damaging the sponge or the blade when removing (tested
on Tenergy 05, EL-P, …). Directions: Apply a first
thin coat (with the brush in the cap) on the blade and the sponge and let dry
for 5 minutes (until the glue turns from milky white to transparent gloss). Add
another coat and put your rubber on the blade when it’s becoming transparent (3
to 4 minutes). Time will depend how thick is the coat. Apply pressure on rubber.
To remove the glue on the sponge, put hot water and/or use your fingers, and for
the blade use your fingers and/or scraper blade lames. This glue is similar to
other table tennis glues but at a much cheaper price considering the quantity

Interesting! Does it dry hard, or like a flexible layer? Unfortunately it does not seem to be available outside Canada, in the USA. It's made with Polychloroprene or better known as neoprene, a synthetic rubber, so it should be flexible. |

To haggisv: It’s a flexible layer when it dries. The glue will curl up on itself when applying pressure with the tip of your fingers on the blade or the sponge. The glue that has been removed has a soft/medium rubber texture. To WingTT: You are right, this brand name LePage is available only at Home Depot in Canada but it is available in USA and Worldwide under the brand name of Zelikovitz (like you mentioned it’s made with neoprene). It’s a water based contact cement like the LePage brand. It is sold mostly as a glue for leather. You can have it at Walmart USA for $11.69USD (7.95 + 3.74 delivery) for 4 oz (118ml). This looks like an interesting alternative. However, in the US, Paddle Palace brand 4 oz tt glue is $14.95 and includes sponges, so this is only a little more expensive. (Free shipping on orders over $60, easily reached when buying a sheet of rubber) Tearmender is cheaper, about $11 for 6 oz from amazon. |

lots of neoprene cements are sold in the US. I wonder if they are basically the same thing?
With that said, good TT glues are cheap compared to rubber and are formulated to work well for the purpose intended.

I found the Aquilim too but at springfieldleather. The prices are slighly lower but there are probably shipping charges. I'm also interested to see if the Renia silicone glue flat brush/spatula they sell there will work well enough so that we won't need to use disposable sponges anymore. That low odor Weldwood Nonflammable stuff is made in China and comes in a quart at minimum. Might be the lowest price option if it actually works and is consistent. I've used Tearmender in the past but I gotten bad batches.
