I just tried using a box cutter to cut my Tenergy rubber (after gluing a new sheet on), and I ended up with jagged edges (extremely ugly). How do you avoid this? It's my first time cutting my rubbers this way (I've always just used scissors).

Thanks!

Light first cut. Deeper the 2nd time and so on.
However, ever seen a top carpet layer at work? Notice how the key to a good cut is having a sharp blade each time he applies the knife.
It's the same with cutting TT rubbers whether with scissors or knives. With scissors, sharpen the blade by cutting through some aluminum foil. Then cut the rubber.

This is the very best thing to cut rubbers. However it´s not safety to hold it with bare fingers, I use a square of leather to protect mine.

i have been using box cutters for 25 yrs. I always use the small one but the blade has to be fresh n new.

Just buy a high quality pair of scissors.

I got the revolution 3 scissors... I just make small cuts and IMO... I get a satisfactory result with way less effort and concentration and danger.

Another vote for scissors, it doesn't matter how sharp the cutter is there's always a rubber that crumbles when I cut it...
After a few almost destroyed rubbers with cutter I switched to scissors for good.

I prefer to use a scalpel. Yeah, hospital grade!
I get clean cuts, rubbers look like they were cut with a freaking laser.
New blades help. Scalpel blades cut better than x-acto knives.

You'll need a cutting mat as well.

tip for using box cutters:
1. use a fresh unused blade.
2. if you are cutting multiple rubbers, cut the 1st 2 segments of the blade before proceeding to the next rubber.
3. use the small type as it is flexible and easier to cut.
4. let the wedge of the blade cut the sponge and rubber, not the pointed tip.
5. if you are not sure at first, apply pressure onto the cutter lightly going back n forth until you fully cut the rubber.
5. cut diagonally using the wedge at about a 45 or 30 degree angle.

Been cutting rubber for 25 years, my record is 300 rubbers. I stopped counting after.

Kai 5626. I saw Xu Xin using it or something very similar in a video and since I 've had such good experiences with Kai sewing shears, got a pair and it is the bomb. I get club members asking me how I get such clean cuts.

Thank you, everybody! I tried Cole's method, and had huge success on my first try. My rubber is cut absolutely perfectly lol. Now that I think about it, I think I remember seeing Xu Xin cut his rubber during a match in the 2013 WTTC, and he also made lots of tiny cuts. I can't believe the tiny cut method works so well!

Yep, the curved Revolution 3 scissors are great. You don’t need a cutting board, you don’t need fresh knife blades, just take the scissors out and get a nice clean cut.
