Are all other butterfly st handles the same as for boll alc? I think of blades like zhang jike alc, boll zlf, boll zlc etc. By same I mean in size and roundness etc.

Compared to TB-ALC, the ST handles on the various ZJK blades are much rounder and in my opinion, much better.  Very very comfortable, don't lock you into a particular grip, and let you switch grip from forehand to backhand very easily.  I can't say anything about the others, have never held any of them in my hand.

I am looking forward to seeing the new Donic Ovtcharov True Carbon when it comes out in June because the handle looks like it will be very good.

These Buterfly Blades habe same squarish ST handle. The only difference is the handle thickness- it depends on the thickness of the blade. In fact the thinner the blade- the thinner the thickness of the handle. Otherwise they all have the same radius and handle broadness which is 27,60 - 27,80 mm For example the handle thickness of Timo Boll ALC ST is 22,5 mm, Mikael Maze off has 22,60 mm when it comes new from production.

These blades have nearly same handle dimensions:

Timo Boll ALC, Mikael Maze Off, Boll W5, Boll W7, Timo Boll Spirit, Timo Boll ZLF, Timo Boll ZLC Boll T5000,  Jun Mizutani ZLC, Schlager Carbon, Primorac Carbon, Mazunov also.

The most handle thickness you can find at Primorac Carbon, because of the high thickness of the blade. It is 23,3 mm. One of The thinnest ST handle is the ZLF with 5,4 mm blade. But I have seen Timo Boll Spirit ST handle with just 22,0 mm handle thickness- these are more for very small hands like Children or other persons have. The other thing is Timo Boll is playing a arylate carbon Koto blade with much more handle thickness as they sell in catalogue. He is not playing with handle thickness of 22,5 mm as they sell in catalogue- he and other player need more handle thickness because he has average sized hands. For me it is the perfect blade and handle. In the world are many average sized table tennis players. Butterfly won't give you any information about his handle dimensions if you ask. They will tell you the same standard answer- he is playing with a regular racket from our stock. Isn't that funny ?

Here is a picture that lets you compare the Round ST handle of a ZJK-ALC with a more typical SQ-ST Butterfly handle shown on the top.  As ttspirit confirms, most of the current Btfly blades seem to have the SQ-ST handle like the one on the top in my picture.  It is not a very good picture, but hopefully you can see the difference.  On the ZJK-ALC shown on the bottom there is no angled edge anywhere on the handle.  Everybody will have their preferences, but I personally very much prefer a Round ST handle because for me it makes grip changes much easier. At the moment I am back with my FL Viscaria black tags because the feel is so perfect.  I still wish I could find a  round ST handle on a blade that had the same overall quality but doubt I will find one (short of paying too much for an old Viscaria ST).  The ZJK-ALC blades I have feel pretty dead and hollow in comparison (enough that I was tempted at a point to put T64 on them instead of my usual T05 to see if that improved matters, in the end just put them in a drawer).  A ZJK-ZLC might suit me better, but nobody in North America sells them with ST handle, and in any case, too much money to buy one without having hit with one first.  I am not shelling out for a super ZLC under any circumstances.  No way am I ever paying that much for a blade!  Like ttspirit, I have also seen some TBS blades with ridiculously small handles.

Hello Baal,

if you prefer more round ST handle then maybe the old Banda Waldner Off with dark brown handle would fit you best. Waldner is also playing with an round ST handle but nobody knows the dimensions of his handle. If somebody knows please share with us.

The Donic Dicon handle they sell is very strange and not good at all. I'm sure you wön't like the donic blades like Dicon or Waldner Senso V1 or Waldner Senso Carbon. They have all the same strange round handles because the dimensions are made without any brain. No one in the world from the pro's I think is playing with standard Donic blades and their handles

I have a new AValox P700 with ST handle- the handle is too big very round. The Dimension are : thickness nearly 24,0 mm and wideness 29,0 mm

As you know we don't get the truth good blades and handles if you don't have luck or relationship.

But sometimes you have luck and you will get a good blade.... however.

Baal is that on the picture your special order blade from Butterfly ?
You can't make good comparements if you don't have the right dimensions on your handle Why is it so ? I also do play with round ST handle if the dimensions are right and it makes fun to play with. If I have a good blade with squarish ST handle and one with good round ST handle dimensions then the comparement would be better and more realistic. For example I have an old Donic Dicon with round ST handle but with different handle dimensions from that ones they sell actually. I love to play with that round ST handle because it has very good handle dimensions. I also have a squarish ST handle blade with perfect handle dimensions and it makes a lot of fun to play. If I compare them I would say both blades are super and sometimes I don't know which blade I take today for playing and sometimes I play at a game with 2 or 3 different rackets. The difference is that these 2 blades let's you play a little bit in a different way and style and allows you various hits and techniques and that makes fun. The good thing is you can play be succesfull with both blades and handles but in a other way.

Yes that was my custom Btfly.  I was an idiot in not specifying what I wanted more clearly.

Actually the round handle on the ZJK-ALC I showed above is very nice.  The problem is the rest of the thing, unfortunately.

You are right, the ole Banda Waldner Off brown handle looks perfect.

Baal: Soulspin can make a Viscaria-like ALC blade for you with your custom handle for less than a price of a Viscaria ST.

Really?  Wow, that would be great.  I have not seen an ALC composite on their website, though, only Basalt.

Forget Soulspin-you won't be satisfied. It will cost around 130 euro or more. Because if you choose the special handle you like it will cost much more than 160. Soulspin says you have to take the handle dimensions that we offer on our website, if you have other handle dimensions they say they need to write a extra programm on the cnc computer machine. And it cost you many hundred euro. They are crazy to take so much money for easy work. Butterfly is doing the same as you know- they just take your money for simple work and the bad news are you even don't get the good dimensions on your blade. I have made some experiences with butterfly, I ordered the same blade as timo Boll is playing with, they just needed to ad more thickness on the handle. After months they shipped me a blade with other dimensions on the handle. My order had the exact dimension to build. Nevertheless they should just add more thickness, other parameters should be the same. The price was 379 euro- but I dind't pay for that fake.

It is hard to get the blade that you like but it should be possible.

I just ordered a custom blade (chose my veneers & thickness, etc) from Soulspin and I'm VERY satisfied.

Baal: look here:

If you want a faster version of this, you just have to ask them to use a slightly thicker core.

I don't have a Viscaria ST to compare, but I thought it is close to TBS ST. Can someone confirm?

It is not at all the same with Spirit or ALC ST handle, just the veneers are the same. Old Viscaria has a wideness of exact 30,5 mm Timo Boll first tried and played with that blade, but later the handle was optimized specially for him because the handle was too big and not what he wanted therefore the optimization.

slevin, you didn't understand me. I wanted soulspin to build me exact the same blade like ALC ST but with more thickness on the handle but with the same radius and other parameters are same. First he told me it would cost much more money than regular ( more than 130 euro) because of the handle. It would cost around 300 euro because they are not able to build a simple blade with simple meassurement. They do it with a cnc machine. They are not able to build the handle with normal machines as carpenter use. Strange. After a while he told me I have to take their handles on their website either way. Sooner or later, soulspin does not have a future. I wouldn't order a racket from them because they can't build a simple blade like many want for a good price.

But if you settle for less and you are happy- that's a other thing. i wouldn't pay that much money for that unperfect competence.

They optimized the wideness from 30,5 to nearly exact 27,5 mm. You will get that, but Butterfly did another optimization on the handle.

I think they've been very clear - they do their handle cutting using CNC machines, and encoding new designs takes time and will cost money.  They aren't in the business of hand-crafting handles to your slightly obsessional requirements.  You are supposed to pick from their large selection of pre-designed handle shapes.

Just because they won't fulfill your unusual requirements without a wad of cash doesn't mean that they don't have a future.  It's more likely that your requirements don't work with their business model, so you should simply go elsewhere.

I am almost certain that one of their Round ST handles would suit me perfectly.  I am more concerned that I really like ALC composites.

hoping someone can confirm wether the LIN GAOYUAN ALC has similar SQUARE PROFILE for their straight handles

I know their FLARED feels like a thicker TB ALC with the same square profile

Held a ST Viscaria and that was more roundish (the same goes for its Flared handle though; more roundish and flatter on your palm)

No, I can not confirm this. The ST handle of Gaoyuan ALC is more or less the same like the ST handle of the Zhang Jike ALC, definitely not as square as Boll ALC.

If you want an ALC blade with similar skills like Boll ALC + the same square ST handles, you should buy a Gewo Force Arc. This blade is a little bit slower, has a bit more control. The rest is nearly the same.

I am playing with a OSP Virtuoso+ st. It's handle reminds me of the Timo BOll alc st handle.  I used to dislike it, but suddenly feel it at one point... My problem is that I seem to like all handles right now since I only practice forehand and backhand loop without real matches.
