what malin has demonstrated is a perfect example of how a penholder should do to defeat a powerful shakehander, at his age malin's footwork is no longer as quick as malong however his experience and his aggressively covering of the table made it up, he did the same at 2nd round final of rotterdam trial but this time is much more effective.

seems like ma lin gives up the tough balls to save his energy for the important ones that he has a better chance of winning, realizing how fast ma long can finish a point if ma lin gives him a weak return.

it would have been another show if at the 5th game, when malong came back from 3:9 to 10:10 he could have finished malin up...malin seemed too at ease and totally distracted

Let me start by saying I am not a fan of Ma Lin's on/off court
personality as I perceive it (I do not know him personally). However,
among Chinese players, past or present, nobody puts on display the
beauty, skill, and subtleties of the sport the way he has, especially in
his matches against Joo Se Hyuk, Wang Hao and Ma Long this past week. A
highlight video would probably take 20 min. and feature numerous
incredible shots. This week Ma Lin looked like Waldner at his best in
the mastery of the game, oftentimes toying with these phenomenal players
as if he was playing a different game altogether.

This Ma Lin reminds me of his level at the end of the chinese trials against Wang Liqin. Really beautiful shots that he made.

Ma lin really seems confident throughout the match.. even when he lost his first and third game, his look tells you - I will be back.. instead of the normal complaining and blaming he did before. :S

My thoughts exactly In fact the only weak shots from Ma Lin were his RPB openings which Ma Long has instantly killed. They were neither powerful nor spiny enough but merely invited the vicious drives to the Ma Lin's forehand side of the table. Fortunately for him Ma Lin didn't put all his money on those RPB openings and opted for more powerful yet risky forehand attacks from his backhand corner. Wish Ma Lin has played the same tight game in the WTTC 1/4 final a month ago Edited by nick_wolf1 - 06/20/2011 at 4:35am |

Yes. Tire of all the excuses. If someone lost, he lost. Did Michael Jordan found excuses not to play well even when he had stomach flu? Did Dirk find excuse not to perform well even when he had high fever? I am not rooted for anyone. But tired of sick of any excuses when someone lost.

For me, Timo didn't get a medal, because he didn't play the match with Ma Long for the 3rd place, both of them got just a half of the medal. Even that half is questionable, because of the ease of his draw thank to his overrated rank in the ittf list which is result of some stupid bonus points that you get for being European Champion, and with that bonus points you get more points for became Europe Champion overall, then you can possible get for being the Asian Champion (which should be the other way around because it is harder to get past Ma Long or Zhang Jike, than Maze and Kreanga...). So, he didn't won that medal, for me...

I think after this performance Ma Lin is moving up to 3 in the world, and the 2nd highest ranked chinese player. Any possibility for London 2012?

It is still too early to call. The team event in 2012 wttc will be the key to Olympics. If any of those top Chinese players loses to Korean, Japanese and German in that event, he will be probably dropped. Wang Hao did well in 2004 wttc team final against Boll, and edged Kong in the Olympics selection. |

lol. As impressed as I am by the koreans in the matches against Xu and Zhang... you can't put a single loss against their entire rep. "the fact that you are world champion is irrelevant! You lost to a korean player that one time, remember!"
They both then got immediately etched out by two more chinese guys. Those losses weren't even funny- especially the one with WLQ- who a lot of people on this forum seem to think is the weakest chinese player now.
Good For Korea no doubt- I think they are the most hopeful to challenging the chinese in the future. But you can't just discredit Zhang or Xu just because of this.

i m never tired of true facts, on the other hand praising a player after getting a bronze medal after 10 years of profesional career is not something to be proud of, besides if you cant get it my posting was about mizutani...at least my coments match reality not sheer fanatism..... i would look like a joker if i would support a player that has been unable to fight a final now boll is in the same league as maze but maybe in 2021 boll can make it and you will party a lot and whine less |
