Most sites have it listed as Tenergy 05. She flat hits a lot, Dignics might not suit her game.

Well, Hayata has done what was expected.  Respectable 1-4 loss to the 2022 Chinese National Champ.

Batra takes two games off Ito and surprises me - if she can keep this level, she will have some great results.  She does have some compatriots to reckon with (Diya Parag Chitale is no joke).

Uda doesn't have a real (rallying) backhand - he needs to develop one.  Lim's balanced game ultimately gave him more gas as the match proceeded.

20, 21, 31, 34, 64, 66, 76, 79, 89 TO for Harimoto, 810, 911

Hayata 2-4 Batra
I thought they knew how to play long pips. Can't believe it took Ishida/Hayata until G4 to adjust by serving pure backspin/nospin ball in lieu of side-top/underspin. What was keeping Ishida from calling TO until 109 in G4 (ultimately 106 -> 1012)?

CCY 4-2 Uda

WYD vs Ito
16, 36, 37, 39, 49, 411

WYD vs Ito
16, 36, 37, 39, 49, 411
11, 15, 85, 7 in a row for WYD, 86, 116
03, 23, 24, 34, 37, 77 TO for Ito, 710, 910
01, 11, 13, 23, 24, 34, 35, 45, 46, 66, 69, 99, 910, 1210

Yeah he doesn't really know how to borrow power on the BH, everything is a full body powerloop which is not the most efficient way to play BH-BH pressure play...

This must be devastating for her.

I think she did a better job of moving her opponent with her BH. It's a risk that she has to take when hitting the parallel length. But that's better than exchanging BH cross court with WYD in a set position. That's proven not to work. She has to be careful though when she bumps the ball with her pips that it bounces too high, and she's immediately in a defensive position. Disappointing for sure,  but I don't know about devastating.  All you can do is try to improve for your next encounter.

Batra seems to have ascended to another level with her twiddling.  She is almost at the Filus level now, maybe even more integrated.

No doubt, Harimoto is a massive talented and a very very hard worker. Totally deserved W#2 spot. Is this the highest ever for Japanese men?

She still has the nasty habit of overhitting without topspin especially on the FH...which cost her a huge amount of critical points. She did a lot better when she was focusing more on spin, placement and depth variation to induce mistakes and weak balls to finish rather than outright trying to hit the ball past Wang Yidi (imo doesn't work at all - Wang Yidi is simply too strong in countering fast balls)

Still her lack of topspin on the FH is a huge liability - if those smashes have more topspin on them they would likely have landed and those crucial mistakes would have been won by her rather than her opponent.

Filus has to play away from the table due to the topspin quality in the men's game, while Batra plays close table for the most part as she can suppress the incoming ball's quality in the women's game. I suspect someone like Sun Yingsha who hits really hard to give her a very bad time. Not sure why Chen Xingtong and Hayata all played so conservative against her, especially Hayata who usually has so much power in her disposal.

I think the fact that Ito, who usually beats pips players with ease, won with a hard fought 4-2, is something you are not accounting for.  I don't doubt good players can beat Batra, but I don't think anyone played conservatively vs Batra, I think her consistency genuinely surprised everyone and wore them down over time, her forehand was definitely improved and put pressure on the opponents more, but even more impressive to me, her offensive twiddling on the backhand and the defensive twiddling on the forehand was a different level.  But more than anything else, I would put the improvement on her forehand as when she took control of the rally, her power made it very hard to switch and she countered extremely well (I wouldn't be surprised if she is practicing with some of the men's team).   She could very well have beaten all the opponents she beat with higher margins, Chen Xingtong, Hayata and Chen Szu Yu 4-1, it is easy to miss this.

It will be interesting to see where she goes from here, He Zhuoja now has renewed importance on the CNT, they might even make her start using Dtecs lol.

Harimoto plugged most of the holes in his game, he is capable of playing close table, mid distance and far distance on both BH and FH with plenty of power now... along with an amazing short game I think he's becoming increasingly hard to beat (if he doesnt mess up his serve receive against weird servers)

That only happens when he plays someone who let HT do that strokes. 80% of his game are BH punches.

I'm quite impressed that someone with 80% BH punches recently beat an in-form WCQ and FZD.
