I think the last video with him is the 1990 European Championships.  I'd have to go digging through my vhs collection.

Yes. He block and then counters when you give a weak return.  He's not really smooth but somewhat effective.

he reached world number 7 i think. he still is the only guy in the uk whose name non tt fans recognise or remember when i talk about tt. i have seen a little of him years ago, when i was not even a tt player or big fan, but cant remember much. my coach says he was a left hander and was v unorthodox. he looped left handed but would have his left foot in front of his right when he did it. i read an article recently about him that said he underwent tests with other england players and they all expected him to have amazing reaction times. he actually came last. he had a real skill at being able to anticipate shots coming at him. weird but obviously effective. anyone know what ittf tour titles he won, if any?

He was an amazing blocker. His stats don't reflect how good he was, definitely among the top 10 Europeans of the decade and a half from 75-90. He often blew up on big occasions like the World Champs, where he was quite capable of reaching the last 8 or better.
Inbetween times he had a really good record in the Top 12,and year on year was the best player in the Bundesliga.(The ITTF Pro-Tour wasn't happening in those days).
His best champs was the Europeans of 1978 where he won every match in the Team event, and looked certain favourite for the singles, but Jonyer finally worked him out with clever tactics in the semis.Similarly in the mid 80s he was the best European along with Waldner/Grubba/Appelgren,but fell apart in majors...
He was also the first balck player to really make the top flight in TT.

i've always wanted to see video of him, but have never had the chance, apart from the video of the 1987 worlds by reflex sports.

they unfortunately only showed a few points of his round of 16 loss to j.o. waldner, so you really couldn't see how good he was.

He played right on top of the table, but his method of "blocking" was much closer to a short counterloop off the bounce, both forehand and backhand.

His backhand in particular would be right at home in the modern era "block with topspin" (only deadblock for effect) tactics.

I think this match was played in 1985 in Germany.

I found some more little pieces, every about 5 minutes,
against Grubba, Klampar , Bhm (GER) and Stefko (CZE)
If there is any interest, I'll digitalize it.

I was not shure, but I found out that this match was played on the 22nd of march 1983 in Reutlingen (Germany). It was the Final of the European Club Champions Cup.

A little excuse:
I'll place today a absolute rarity, a match Jacques Secretin (FRA) versus Guo Yuehua (CHN), both wellknown as perfect show players, but this match was not a show match.
