I bought a Wavestone used from someone off the forum and I thought I would give my impression of it.
Comparing it to other arylate-carbon blades I've used, KLHS and Maze, this plays totally differently. It's really fast, on the level of Primorac Carbon, and very hard. However it doesn't have the vibration dampening effect of arlyate. It's got vibration, but not necessarily good vibration. So it's like a fast wood blade with a moderate amount of vibration. For 25 bucks, it's not bad. You get the speed of a Primorac Carbon with a more woody feel. The finish is what you would expect for say Stiga, but not on the level of BTY blades. Great value. |

The Wavestone is very similar to the Iolite, but with a limba top ply rather than hinoki/cypress

I think that top ply makes a big difference in feel.

Yes.
The Iolite top ply is significantly thicker and feels softer. Other than that, they're almost identical speedwise, controlwise, etc. |
