    Posted: 06/09/2007 at 8:07am
I have recently been advised by a senior player to wash my bats before and after each game. I have noticed that after some time, the blade wood becomes black, presumably from sweat. After I ran it under water, it cleared up a bit. The rubber's tackiness also improved. However, another friend told me that if I was not careful, the wood would rot and I would be breeding maggots. So all in all, is it advisable to wash the bat, or only the blade and rubber? is there any good or will it destroy my bat? thanks

i only clean my rubbers

and just rub or scratch off the sweat/dirt with my finger nails

i dont see a real point of cleaning the entire bat

I really advise against running any part of the wooden blade in water...or even let it touch any liquid in general...because it WILL rot.

I just use a wet cloth and wipe down my rubbers after a playing session or two.

Used to wash my bat.  It warped.  You do not want lots of moisture on the blade.

I never let any amount of water to touch my blade even though my blade has been sealed up to the handle. I am afraid that some water will get inside the wood and the wood will rot. If you want to avoid dirt, then you have to seal your blade including the handle, at the expense that it might become a bit slippery.
