    Posted: 12/21/2007 at 11:08pm
There is a guy in Australia claimed that Eucalyptus oil can have great speed glue effect.  And once applied, it can last very long and almost like the homemade tensor sponge.  Has anyone ever heard or tried it?  I know Eucalyptus oil is very common in Australia and there are quite a few forum members in Australia.  Any input would be appreciated.

I suppose it is applied on the rubber ?
Then it is good for preventing the rubber from catching cold Wink
Anyhow, why not give it a try on an old rubber ?

That guy tried on several rubber sheets.  This picture I believe is the blue sponge hurricane from haggisv.  He applied several thin coat on the sponge (just like when you apply the speed glue), then use regular glue to glue to the blade.

Even after being wiped, won't it leave a residue as much, if not more, than EE?

That guy said Eucalyptus oil is highly volatile.  Unlike cooking oil, you don't need to wait for a long time for it to dry.

OMG ! Why it is marked "Poison" ? Eucalyptus is commonly used in my country even for infants to keep them warm and for preventing cold.

It is generally meant to be used as a topical or inhalant, or even  in mouthwash.

Ingesting it in large amounts is dangerous.

Could you give me a link that shows eucalyptus oil has d-limonene in it?
That guy uses 100% pure eucalyptus oil and said its speed glue effect lasts for weeks.  Why d-limonene in eucalyptus oil would last for weeks while it could only last for hours if it is in the regular speed glue?

Do you have to try and glue it when its curled up like a burrito or do you wait until the rubber settles back to flat to glue it to your blade???  I have always just fix glued but wanna do some Holiday experiments!

I was wondering myself about the thickness of the sponges - hope he started with max, cause they look hugely thick!  Also, arent they going to smell awfully bad (unless you like the strong smell of eucalyptus)?

That guy said the rubber won't settle back to flat for weeks.  When you glue it to the blade, use the kind of glue that sticks better and you have to use some heavy book to press it down for 10 or 20 minutes.

I think my friend uses this. Does some speed glue have heavy odour? His blade had an unusual odour that was very strong.
