Wow, youngster Xu Xin (CHN) beat Hou Yingchao 4-1 and Samsonov 3-0 (Team event).

He's most likely on his way to the finals, where he'll meet Samsonov again. Lets see if he can repeat his previous success...

Yea, I'm also impressed by this Xu Xin guy. Yet another young Chinese star to look out for in the near future.
Anyway, Samsonov pulled out the win in the finals, 4-1.

it'll be interesting to see where he ends up in the rankings next month--he's unrated.  he took out his teammate, hou, who's currently 21 in the world and he took out no. 5-ranked vladi in the team event.

18 is pretty young.

You have to be impressed with how the Chinese have Xu Xin (18 yo) and Zhang Jike (19 yo) waiting in the wings to replace Wang Liqin and Ma Lin when they retire.

I spend some time in Grodno. There are some good players in that area, but more importantly . . . the girls are hot. Sadly, all the kissing I did sitting on a tank near Soviet Square did not erase the painful truth that the country's politics remain in line with 1958 Soviet Union. I hope the table tennis players can run across the border to Poland . . . bringing some hotties with them. :-).

A definite "bad day at the office" for Samsonov. Haven't seen him so sluggish and out of sorts for a while. Xu Xin played OK but Samsonov made so many basic mistakes that he handed him the match.
