Your wrist is key in flicking, keep it relaxed!! Same with your elbow, relaxed elbow and arm = much easier time performing that stroke.  At any rate make sure you step into the shot well, the closer you are to the ball the easier it is, when you reach it only means trouble.  But make sure you step back quickly and don't sit there and watch the ball, if the person can block you're in trouble if it comes back right into your body.

Make sure that the flick stroke begins earlier than the contact with the ball. Meaning - you need the blade to have the spin to push the ball over - this is what generates the speed, otherwise, your flick would either go into the net, or be too weak, too high that the opponent can kill it.

will i hit the ball when my elbow it already straight?or a 45 degree angle when i will flick the ball...when will i use my wrist?
