Where can I find a non-commercialized cheap coaching in China? The only thing I got from Google was the ridiculously overpriced tourist gimmick program from cntttc.org. I figure going to one of their public school training sessions would beat any coaching I can get outside China, but I doubt they'll let me in!

It depends on a variety of factors? Like do you speak Chinese? Without knowing Chinese, it really limits your options. I got coaching in northern China in Harbin for thirty yuan an hour and it was quite nice too. I even got to play with some Russian national players.
Btw, I don't think Zhang Guozhi (georgehong) coaches anymore. I believe that he's directing the majority of his time towards his business now. Idk, you could ask him though. |

Group training is about $5/hr, individual training is about $15/hr.
Hotel costs about $25/day. Meals costs about $10-20/day.
A little bit spoken chinese would greatly help, but bot absolutely necessary.

I can speak mandarin but unfortunately have forgotten how to read and write. I just found cao yanhua table tennis training school in shanghai on google (caotts.com). looks very impressive. i called them and they said they charge RMB450 per day inclusive of lodging, food, book lessons (for the children) and training. You can train for any number of days you wish. Just call them and they'll come pick you up from the airport. There's training in the afternoon and evenings, for at least 4 hours total. He said mornings are free, or you can also arrange for additional coaching. Another forumer has a post about his experiences (http://mytabletennis.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=3145&PN=1) with generally positive reviews, but that was a couple of years back. From the pictures of their website, the facilities look very nice. Any one else have feedback?

A lot of coaches will advertise online in china, but you need someone who can speak chinese to find one for you. My wife always seems to find great coaches for me when i go. It is relatively inexpensive, but I always pay the same as I do for coaches in the US as a sign of respect -- plus it makes them really happy and they spend extra time with me.

try Beijing ShiChaHai Sport School. This school produces Olympic athletes but might be expensive.
ShenZhen has many private club with coaches, mostly ex-provincial, charge about US 20 per hour. |
