A pro recently told me I'm doing a good job "shadowing" my shots. I like hearing anything positive, but I don't know what he meant.

What is Shadowing?

The only context in which I've heard/used it was regarding practicing your strokes when not actually playing.

That is, think "shadow boxing".

Perhaps he was saying you have good form when you practice your strokes...?

Do you think perhaps he meant your ability to 'disguise' or 'hide' your shots (spin and placement)? As in, that they are not predictable?
If so, that would be a nice compliment. Smile

I don't know. I hope the comment was based on my actual playing and not whatever I was doing in the mirror. That's creepy!

I think:

1) Shadowing is playing TT with the mirror....

or

2) Your consistency of the same stroke over and over again

The only thing I can think of is when you stand behind a player on the table and mimic their movement and timing.  It's mostly for beginners though, and places without enough tables to train on.

I think shadowing (IMO) is to repeat the stroke/s over again and again until you are used to it but make sure your strokes are correct otherwise you are perfecting a mistake!

I think he meant you are good in faking your shot.  Pro players are very good on anticipation of where your shot is going to go, based on your movement.  Maybe he is having a hard time doing that on you.

aside from the ones stated above, shadowing is a form of mental training where you picture an imaginary ball being hit by a specific stroke you are practicing on shadow drills. mental practice and rehearsal is a very under rated part of TT training

On a humour part.

Maybe he is saying, you are playing well against your shadow.
So who won?
