I bought this blade to replace my 3-ply Hock blade. I want to keep the Hock in storage since they are becoming rare and expensive to find. First impression of the Hunter Hawk was the overall build quality is high with the oval ST handle very smoothly sanded. The shape and feel of the ST handle is a clone of the Hock. The inner ply is basswood with 2 outter thin plys of I believe is birch so wood selection is not the same as a Hock. I bought the Hunter Hawk for hard bat use and have BTY Orthodox on both sides. Does it play like a Hock?
Playing feel is very close to my 3-ply Hock.
Great for chopping, blocking, pushing, hitting ( powerful with good arm speed) and yes looping with lighter spin.
86 grams
Over sized head but not monstrous.
I really enjoy playing with the Hunter Hawk as it provides the ultimate in control and makes a great
hard bat. I always thought that Hunter was made in the USA but China may be the correct answer. I
recommend the Hawk for hard bat use or with thin inverted or anti or LP's on one side for combi-
play.

Does the Hunter Hawk flex much? How would you rate the speed? My Toxic 5 flexes a lot when I hit the ball near the tip.

I am pretty sure Hunter is the house brand for the Paddle Palace. If the Hunter Hawk is made in China that would be unique at the Paddle Palace since they only seem to carry more expensive Japanese and German TT equipment. |

oh that's right, that's where I saw the brand (paddle palace catalog) curious on thickness because I'm think of having Peter Freundlieb build a 3ply hardbat blade for me

It flexes BIG time. It is a very thin blade.

any theory on why they split? I'm studying wood veneers right now so I can have Peter building something similar for me

It is good to know about the splitting. I would be furious if I spent that much money on a blade that split. I think I will stick with what I have, a Toxic 5 with Peacekeeper.

man that's no joke (about the splitting) toxic 5 seems like a good value but dang! what a hideous blade! I have 2 sheets of peacekeeper waiting for the right blade I've contacted Peter and asked about a 3.3 ayous core with .5 poplar outers

Yes I purchased it from Paddle Palace. No problem with splitting so far. The Hawk is rightly rated as Def+. The blade really absorbs the opponents thunder...very flexi but still fast enough for counter hits. It is also available in FL and AN grip.

Paddle Palace catalog lists the blade as only 4.3mm thick. I suppose they purposely make it so thin for maximum flex. It is an oversize blade so it has a big area (weight) to flex. The thinness of the blade is probably at its threshold to hold its continuous flexing. No 2 cuts of wood are identical so I guess it's the luck of the draw.
