Hey guys,
My friend is a state player and wears in his rubbers fairly quickly compared to me. He is giving me his dead Tenergy 05s next week. Is there any way of restoring the grip without having to purchase anything like spinmax? Thanks. |

Oil.
There's many theories: baby oil, veggie oil, lamp oil. Seach the forum for "revitalize" or "revitalizing". PS: 1000th post! |

Sure.
I redirected you to the search function, because I've never revitalized rubbers myself. But if you try some oil or other ways, please share your experiences. |

I've used just 1-2 drops of olive oil and then rub them in with my fingers. Once I feel that the oil has warmed up and spread around sufficiently, I let the blade lay face up until the oil has soaked in. This usually restores it nicely. While all oils seem to condition and restore rubber, the more volatile ones (PO, kerosene, etc.) seem to "grow" or "stretch" a top sheet more, while more viscous oils, like Olive or cooking oils, seem to only condition & restore the rubber's grip.

It's funny, butterfly tell you to NEVER apply oil to a rubber on its packaging... is this because they want you to replace your rubber sooner???

At the same time, or separately? And if separately, do you mean PO first, then soap? |

Wipe with parafin oil first, while still wet, put soap, and rub it with sponge until it has bubble, then rinse it with water until it's really clean. |

This to me looks like just an extreme way of cleaning the rubber. Does that mean that restoration is simply cleaning away built up dirt and grease?

The little VOC that's there will be gone within a few minutes of airing. At least that's what I was told when I worked in factory that made printing machines.

IMO, it is both cleaning and restoring some oils in the rubber which does the trick. That's why I refuse to use any cleaner that has alcohol in it, because over time it can reduce the oil content in the rubber.

OK. Didn't know that rubber has in oil of sorts. But a little wander through Wikipedia showed that synthetic rubber tends to have more oil than natural rubber. I don't what that means for TT stuff though.
