I was asked by a forum member to give review of TSP Besty which is my current blade.
TSP Besty is a 5+2 Arylate Carbon blade with quite classical composition. I bought it maybe 5 years ago directly from Japan. Speed is Off, distinctively slower than TB ZLC, IF ALC or Photino. Maybe similar to Nittaku Acoustic (if I remember correctly), but much faster than your normal wooden allround blades. Besty has a direct and bouncy feel like many blades with composite second layer. When playing it does feel a bit hollow and light unlike similar Butterfly blades which feel like they have a stronger core. Although the top layer is thin, its softness gives a very smooth touch with few vibration. It is comparatively thin and flexy but still stiff enough for stability. Advantage of Besty is comparatively good control on all shots and very few weaknesses. I am playing it with very soft rubbers like Aurus Sound. With these rubbers the blade has superb spin while keeping the directness and feeling of stiff composite blades. Passive game is quite good as Besty has less overall speed compared to BTY IF ALC or Photino, but due to quick rebound it's not optimal when passive blocking. Active blocks are quite nice and crisp and it's easy to accelerate dead balls - useful against long pips players. With my combo you can get good enough pace on the ball and quite a good arc on topspins, but it does not have the same acceleration as above mentioned BTY blades. Don't try it if you need a weapon for smashes and power topspin, although Besty provides a decent kick on heavy shots. I recommend Besty for spin oriented players who like composite blades but want more control and spin than standard Butterfly blades offer. Besty also has a quite uniquely good feel for the ball for an off blade. Edited by harldhzx - 08/14/2013 at 10:29am |

Agree with proSpin as to speed and flex. I find Butterfly ALC blades generally more muted with less initial catapult but overall faster.

I heard once that BTY coats the AC layer which makes it less bouncy.
Besty does not play like all wood blades as it has strong catapult from the AL layer and is more linear across the surface. Also lacks the dwell of softer wooden blades.

It's apparently not much sold outside Japan - I ordered it directly from a Japanese shop.
