Tommy, in 2009, I made a press similar to your press with similar bolts and medium sized thumb screws, but the wood I used was thinner. Someone on the camp threw away a wooded document inbox and I cut out the bottom and used it for the press. One side if it had some felt glued to it and that was perfect for pressing against the rubber without making it fuse to the wood under pressure.
 
Why is GF foot swollen? She kick you in the arse for mischief and just happened to kick TOO hard?

How long do you press your rubbers for after glueing? Can I replicate this effect with a few choice books? Should I put a lot of pressure on it?

there is absolutely no need for a press if you are not boosting/speed gluing.
