Excellent blades really.
A bit different from ALC blades ,perhaps might be a bit slower but far more controlable. I gave such blade to a 2600 rated player and he confirm that this blade is very good mathing with tenergy from any distance. Also Johny is a nice guy and he can assist you. Respect for Mr.Levi and Johny |

I have two basalt Levi blades one Walnut and the other Koto. The Walnut blade is powerful the beast while the Koto is soft making delicate shots around the table.

Thank you. The outer layers of cedar are arranged at 90 degrees to give a great stability, high speed and more feel to the blade.

He makes custom blades based around your particular style and what you are looking for in a blade. For example if you are a defensive player and want a combo blade that will play anti on one side and OFF or ALL on the other or a All around player looking for a specific set of wood on either side Levi is the blade maker to work with. There is no website with model's to choose from, I have purchased a custom blade from Levi through Johnny its craftsmanship was perfect and matched my order spec's. Lots of off the shelve blades around and endless websites with various models on display but what Levi is offering is a custom blade making service at a very attractive price point.

Levi Basalt Blade Review:
Two months ago I purchased two basalt blades from Johnny Erasure that were made by artisan blade maker Levi in Romani both blades used basalt composite fiber directly under the outer ply. Basalt fiber is a relative new composite fiber composed of almost 50% glass with a large percentage of Iron and the rest made up of heavier elements such as Aluminum, Magnesium and Titanium. It is now replacing E-glass, S-glass, carbon and Aramid in many high tech and industrial applications due to its high tensile strength, elastic properties and overall strength compared to conventional glass and carbon. Its use in table tennis blades provides stiffness for a larger sweet spot is softer and stronger than carbon or Aramid and is stiffer and faster than glass fibers. Packaging: The blades arrived in a yellow large envelope bubble wrapped. Both blades arrived in perfect condition Workmanship: The blades were rated OFF required no sanding of any kind, the edges were smooth, the handles comfortable. The blade head size was 150 x 157 and the handle 100x24 both blades had 5+2 configuration. The blades appearance exhibits fine craftsmanship and above average quality and looks like a custom made blade. Playing Characteristics: The Koto blade was made with a soft light Koto weighted 82 grams and played exceptional around the table for pushes, flicks and returning serves. The blade had good spin on serves, loops and was surprisingly strong in smashes. The blade felt solid without vibration but had a good ball feel and played like it was part of your hand. I have used it the last 6 weeks in various league competitions as a close to the table touch blade but still outstanding for blocking and smashes. The Black Walnut Blade was the same composition as the Koto only the outer ply being different and weighed 88 grams. It is more powerful than the Koto but still rated OFF I needed time to practice with it over the past 6 weeks and recently started using it in league play. The blade is similar to the Koto blade in that it has a solid feel but good touch and a nice woody sound. The blade is effective anywhere long, medium or close to the table has nice spin for pushes great for serves and stays on the table with heavy topspin drives and smashes. Conclusion: The combination of Glass and Iron occurring naturally in Basalt makes it attractive composite in table tennis blade manufacturing as it enhances the wood composition attributes of the blade. |

For months now people have asked for some price info and I have yet to see a response. Johnny please be helpful and list some examples and range of prices. We all realize that these are custom blades to an extant but you have sold and promoted them enough to give us some price info. The general spirit of these forms is that price will be posted on things that are for sale. Please help us some. Thanks, Joe

If you don't know Mr. Levi in partnership with Dan Tigau which selling Revolution No. 3 water glue and many other products Revolution No. 3, they have brought on market a new brand of blades: Red+Black. You can see here more about this blades, on german shop futurespin.de: http://www.futurespin.de/tischtennis-shop/tischtennishoelzer-tischtennisholz/redblack-hoelzer/?xploidID=1f9vveosg46u5age03o6d2k782 or on tt11.com. Blades handmade by Levi that I have posted in this topic are handmade only by Mr. Levi, without Red+Black box, Red+Black face and handle print. So, if someone are really interested can buy from futurespin or tt11 Red+Black blades or can order from me only Levi handmade blades, but only by PM, sorry. I can help you in finding a good composition or you can make what composition you want depending on available stock veneers taken by Mr. Levi. All the best.

It's the off season for me, so that means it's time to experiment. I've been eyeing up Levi blades for a while and so I have dipped my wobbly bits into the water. Johnny was a big help and is still being a top bloke while I work on getting a second blade made up.
Anyway, I got one of the koto-basalt-limba-kiri blades seen above. I've never had a basalt blade before so I kept an open mind about the whole experience and I certainly wasn't expecting big things. This is one blade on a list (an obviously large list owned by an idiot) of things to try over the summer. But it's come as a big surprise. Physicals: The materials are obviously very high quality and the basic construction is top notch. There are no sharp edges anywhere and the outer ply is an absolute beauty. The handle is a chunky flare which is super comfortable, the wings are unobtrusive, and the whole thing is very nice to pick up and wave around. The finishing touches aren't as detailed as OSP, SoulSpin or Ross Leidy and it gives a rustic charm to the blade rather than the super-slick logos and CNC detail madness. Playing I'd say the basic speed was around the upper edge of Off-, slightly slower overall than a Viscaria, a tick faster than a WSC. There is a bit of flex in there, and a small, smooth feedback (more noticeable on slightly off-centre hits). I'd say the flex is near what you get with a heavier Viscaria. The sweet spot is pretty big, but not as large as some of the recent enormous SZLC or Xiom blades. The throw is medium, very consistently so in fact. The hand feel is the best part of the package really, it might come from the basalt I suppose. It's a LOT nicer in terms of feel when compared with any koto-alc blade I've ever used. The ball feedback is noticeable but very mellow and mild, smooth like melted easter egg dripping down your chin. It's dreamy really, it doesn't feel like the usual vibration at all, more like a perfectly tuned hum. There is no hollow feeling here, it's very solid. The contact feel is softer than you might expect for a koto outer, but the outer ply is quite thin and (again) the basalt may be contributing to this. This takes away a little of the bounciness you'd expect with a stiffer koto-outered blade. However, the easy power in the lower/medium gears in direct play is still there and blocking is very predictable too. When looping a little harder the feel becomes a bit softer and it's super easy to get bite on the ball. On really hard loops the power increases a little and playing from slightly further away is good. Smashes can be a bit fierce. The top-end speed is high. Overall I really wasn't expecting to like this blade as much as I do - it was a dark horse, but ended up a great surprise. The overall feel is somewhere in between what you'd usually get from limba and koto (more like a softened koto I suppose), there is a touch of flex but otherwise very solid, power is useful without dominating, and loop feel is very forgiving. The overall package is harmonious with all rough edges smoothed away from the performance. I wouldn't recommend it to lovers of highly flexy blades, or people who need hard, bouncy or uber-power blades. But if you've got an ALC blade and wished it was a bit softer or more forgiving with much better feel, or perhaps have something like a Korbel and wanted a bit more ooomf and a bigger sweet spot, I really recommend that you try one of these out. For a mixed-purpose, Off-, general topspin blade, I can't think of a better example. It reminds me most of the best Boll Spirit I ever had, which was a heavy black tag and was unusually soft. The Levi blade is a bit slower than that was but has the benefit of remarkable feel in comparison.

Thanks for the nice review Andy.
How would you compare it with the OSP-Carbon blade you recently tested? Based on your review it sounds like the Levi blade is less flexy, more direct or crisp and a tad faster. |

Wow , all are beautiful blades, I notice it's all OFF blades . Does Mr. Levi make a defensive blade ? Or something oversize like the OSP blades?

Yes, Mr. Levi can make defensive blades without any problem. All blades are offensive because I'm an offensive player. Also Mr. Levi can make oversize blades but why Butterfly make almost only the size 150/157mm? Because it's the best size.
