So awhile ago I posted about how it would be interesting to see where higher level players focus there eyes when they play. Turns out you have to rely on crazy Japanese variety shows to get things like this done.LOL

Two parts that are interesting, the eye tracking at 14 mins and body cues segment at 17 mins. It's not super scientific but it was ingenious.

It's interesting that they mention there is just 0.18 secs between the smash and the end of the table, but human reaction takes 0.3 secs. By comparison, in baseball there's 0.42 secs, soccer 0.39, badminton 0.48 secs.

It highlights and draw attention to the importance of proper anticipation that is such a vital part of table tennis.

I tried playing with earplugs on once and my timing was way off.

At 14:32 of the video they do an eye tracking segment. Is it my imagination or is the player not watching the ball on to the racquet. It appears he tracks the ball up to the net and then his eyes goes back to the opponent. In tennis they tell you to watch the ball on to the racquet - it appears in TT that's not the case.

LOL...I must seek out Yoda and have him teach me some of that yoga to increase the force for me!
Actually I remember seeing poster of Waldner - ball is about strike his blade, but his eyes are on his opponent. I might be looking at the wrong thing - heck I might as well read what's on my edge tape!

Yep.  One of the key skills that top players exhibit is the ability to manage the point so that they almost always have .5 secs or more between ball contacts.  When the interval gets much shorter, the odds of making a good return typically drop fairly dramatically.
