Would pips work well for jpen? What types of pips would work best if i want to use it for hitting?

Darker Speed 70 r 9 mm + Spectol is great for hitting. If you want more control and spin, Moristo SP works well on 1-ply hinoki.
Here are a few examples. World over 40 champion Sahara uses Darker Aquablade Marugata with Flarestorm II(go to 3:00): This lady here plays with Kokutaku Beseic V2 Special and Zava max This guy with Butterfly 1-ply hinoki and Moristo SP: Nitchugo Super(Senkoh 5) + Nittaku Specialist Soft Edited by ChichoFicho - 05/18/2016 at 3:02pm |

Kohno used a special blade with egg shape - Birmingham 77. It's too slow for the 40+ elephant ball.
Hyun Jung Hwa Nitchugo Super + Spectol. |

Zava is less spinny pip meant for counter hitting and blocking. Moristo is hard to control in max and the ball doesn't sink as much as Zava. Zava is more advanced pip while Moristo is friendly and easy to use but there is no sinking unless you put it on a 1 ply hinoki blade.

Not that many penhold hitters left nowadays. Some semi pro penhold hitters switched to inverted or have stopped playing since the introduction of the plastic ball. Edited by ChichoFicho - 05/22/2016 at 4:11pm |

Zava is well known in Korea only. The best penholders use spinny pips (Tasei used Raystorm; He Zhi Wen uses Spinpips; Wang Zeng Yi 802-40 and so on) these days because you cannot survive at 2700+ by counter hitting only. The only pro penhold player using Moristo at really high level is Kim Nam Soo and his strokes are not typical hitters strokes. He and Lee Eun Hee are the only two high level players in Korea who survived after the changes : speed glue ban and the 40+ ball. But they are basically semi-retired nowadays. Zava is easier to use but it is not as destructive as Spectol Speed. This is a recent match of Kim Nam Soo: Edited by ChichoFicho - 05/23/2016 at 1:41am |

Nothing wrong with his serve. He removes the free arm after the toss. Good serves.

Ha ha. Do you know why you can't spot the ball here? Answer: it's because it's behind his free arm. Jang Woojin (his opponent) is a very high level player, so it really doesn't matter.

Of course you can spot it and Jang sees clearly the ball. The free arm is going to the left and when the ball reaches the height at which the palm is on your picture he is going to make the contact with the ball.

He hasn't been playing much. A whole generation short pips penholders completely disappeared in Korea. The new rubbish ball makes life for penholders very hard. Chinese penhold hitters will disappear completely forever at high level. Kim used to play with 2.1 mm before the plastic elephant ball came into play. Now perhaps max.

Zhou Xintong uses the short pips for serves only. No cpen hitters anymore. The plastic rubbish ball will ultimately liquidate all styles except the two wing shakehand power looper who plays close to the table and doesn't think much.

I wouldn't play SP with a jpen blade. Because SP penhold play requires fast changes from BH-FH and it´s faster to make that changes with a cpen grip. It´s also easier to block using cpen blades.
