What are good options for cheap robot balls? With my setup they get stepped on quite frequently. Don't have to be plastic. Are the Joola Magic ones ok? I see there are very cheap ones on Amazon, don't know if they are any good at all.

If you are going to compete at any level, I would recommend you train with plastic balls. Our club uses the Joola Flip 2-star training ball and it is excellent for both robot and for regular training. It also is available at a very good price point. Megaspin.com has a good price for this ball.
The Joola Flip is seamless and plays quite well. The 3-star version of the ball, Joola Flash, is an excellent playing tournament ball.
