rubbers: inverted/pips out, short/med/long pips, anti-spin, sponge thickness/hardness/pore density, top sheet thickness/hardness/grip/tackiness/pip geometry, ..., ???

blades: types of wood, types of carbon, # layers, layer stack-up, blade thickness, blade stiffness, # carbon layers, blade weight, balance, spacing between layers, type of epoxy used, handle shapes, ..., ???

Is there another sport that has similar number of possible equipment combinations as TT?  (my guess is "NOT EVEN CLOSE").  Any opinions?  TIA.

I think racing would have more combinations, because there are lots of parts involved that can all be changed.
-1 ply Cypress 11.5mm "The Castigator"
-H3 Prov. Blue Sponge 2.2mm 41 deg.
-H3 Prov. Orange Sponge 2.1mm 37 deg

You got me there, good one!  But is racing a "sport" in the real sense of the word?  Maybe I should have asked about a "sporting activity requiring significant physical prowess ...", or something like that.  I think you get my point.

Its not a sport (to most anyway) but electric guitar (woods, electronics), the amps (components, woods) and effects pedals (components) have an infinite amount of combinations. I just had to pick both activities with infinite possibilities and infinite drain on cash...

If talking about other sports there's probably a few that come close, especially e-sports (gamepad, PC, armchair, actual game played, etc.).

But I think out of the popular racquet sports table tennis probably has the most equipment combinations, simply because it is the only one where you have different forehand and backhand surfaces.

If you consider all the equipment available to play any racquet sport (from Wikipedia: Badminton, Ball badminton, Basque pelota, Frontenis, Xare, Beach tennis, Fives, Jai Alai, Matkot, Padel, Paleta Frontón, Pelota mixteca, Pickleball, Platform tennis, Qianball, Racketlon, Racquetball, Racquets, Real tennis, Soft tennis, Speed-ball, Speedminton, Squash, Hardball squash, Squash tennis, Stické, Table tennis, Tennis, ....) and then if you account for equipment longevity and replacement rate, is TT the most expensive racquet sport to play?
