    Posted: 09/27/2006 at 10:13pm

Finally my black Globe 999 national version arrived yesterday.

my first impression about the black globe 999 national version was that it was very light. if the globe 999 jap sponge is lighter the national version is more or less lighter by a few grams. one concern that i had was the weight since i am using a stiga carbokev wrb which is kinda heavy but i was wrong together with dhs skyline 3 max, my setup is as light compared to my ritc 729-3 and 729 jap before.

the globe 999 comes in just a plastic package with no commercial cardboard covering just plain plastic cover. it has a stamp at the back. the rubber has a 38 degrees hardness stamp but i think its more like 39-40 but its soft. the rubber has a thinner topsheet compared to the regular 999's and the sponge is very bouncy compared to the regular n jap versions. i coated the sponge with 2 layers or rubber cement added with lighter fluid and the domes was really nice. with only 2 layers i got a sort of C-shaped curvature.. the sponge sucks up a lot of glue and is good for gluers.

anyway, i was using it as a backhand rubber and serving with is is so cool since its very spinny. what i love about it is doing 3rd ball attacks. i usually do an opening backhand loop and its great lifting against heavy backspin wqith great amount of control.

spinwise:

globe national>globe regular = globe jap

speed:

globe national>globe regular>globe jap

control:

globe national = globe jap > globe regular

yea but i don't think this rubber is suitable for everybody.  If you are looking for speed then this rubber is not for you, but if you are looking for control loop then you should give this rubber a try.

Is yours the blue sponge? I love mine also. It's a keeper on the forehand side for me since it can generate really spinny opening loops. Mine is stamped 39 degrees though.

Globe 999 / Globe 999T are both very good rubbers, the real difference is in the topsheet. Pay attention to the topsheet - the professionals / National team members use specific "batch numbers" or rather specifically "rated" topsheets, and couple them with an appopriate sponge for maximum performance.

Can anybody tell me what the "30" vs the "31" is that is on the 999 topsheet?

Those are "batch numbers" or rather "ratings". These numbers translate to QC testing standards. The best quality ones (used by Ma Lin) are rated #30.

have you noticed that this rubber is shiny enough to make a reflection?  i could actually see myself in it.  For some reason i don't see that in other chinese rubbers.

topcoms is pingpongonline.com

globe 999 national is differentfrom sriver , very tacky but can also be as fast.. the sponge is very bouncy compared to normal chinese rubbers. it is light and doesnt have a dead feel
