Super Simple Method

Pre prep cut rubber large where it hangs well over edges

1 Glue Blade do not glue rubber
2 Let dry 20 minutes
3 Roll up rubber leaving label at bottom exposed
4 Align label at bottom press to attach
5 Roll rubber upward press down with fingers any bubbles
6 Let dry one hour then do final cut

Hello,

I managed glue the OX rubber, by myself.. Here's how it went...

  1. Applied a thin'ish layer of Donic Vario Clean to the Pogo LP, and set it aside to dry until the white glue seemed to disappear.
  2. Applied a thin layer of Donic Vario Clean to the Defplay Senso V3 Blade, and set it aside to dry until the white glue seemed to disappear.
  3. I made a real DUMB mistake of placing my finger on the glued blade, to check if it had dried, when I took my finger off, it peeled off the glue...Basically ruining everything...
  4. Peeled off the glue from the blade, by rubbing my thumb on the blade.
  5. Once I was done peeling off the Glue, I saw just a few tiny fibres had partially come off.
  6. Kicked myself for not sealing the blade...
  7. Ran down (with a bit of a limp) to the local hardware store (took the blade with me).. Showed my handy-work to the store keeper. He suggested I use 3M's 220 sandpaper... Bought some.
  8. When I got back home, the glue on the rubber seemed to have set.
  9. Peeled the glue off the rubber... Reapplied..
  10. Put the rubber aside, and sanded the blade lightly... It turned as good as new..
  11. Reapplied glue, and this time used a hair-dryer to dry it quicker...
  12. At which point got a mouthful from the missus....didn't realize that the my LIL miss was having her afternoon nap, in the other room.
  13. Once the glue on the rubber and blade dried, I placed the rubber, glue-side down on a thin, textured plastic folder, with the label part out of the folder..
  14. I aligned the label to the handle, and pressed it down..
  15. Shifted the folder upwards, and stuck the next part of the rubber
  16. Repeated step 15, until all the rubber seemed stuck to the blade.
  17. Used a rolling-pin (Almost every Indian house-hold has one)
  18. Checked for any bubbles...Didn't notice any.
  19. Placed a stack of books for around 2-3 hours...
  20. Cut the rubber.
  21. Clicked photos...
So, it was not all smooth sailing, but the end-result, I think was pretty successful.

Thanks everyone for the pointers...

I'll try posting some pics, later (One I figure-out how to)...

The only time I had any splintering with a Defplay is if there are any dings around the edges where the Basswood central ply becomes exposed and can come away a bit when pealing rubbers off,the outer Anigre ply is really smooth and not prone to splintering but it won't hurt to have a thin coat of sealant ,it's more important to protect the edges of this blade Imo

I hear, that sealing/lacquering the blade tends to, noticeably change the way the blade plays, especially with OK LPs. Some people even mention that it reduces spin-continuation (Please note : I say spin-continuation, and not spin-reversal Wink.. ) ... To what extent is that true ?

Use hardwax oil from the brand Clou

I use very light layers, doesn't change the characteristics of my blades, XVT or others.

It's so simple using a glue sheet.  Never a mistake and you can reuse the glue sheets.

I had 2 blades ruined because of these sheets.
Also, it depends of the type of outply, some woods are very fragile.
Also, for some who decide to go for the sheets, I would recommend to seal first the concerned side of the blade with hardwax oil from clou. A thin layer is enough, it won't change the blade property and it will protect the blade. Much easier to take off the glue sheet without hurting the blade, especially when the sheet is torn when you change LP rubbers.

But...I prefer by far using glue

Kind of the same method as Haggsiv's, except that you create a bit of stiffness in the OX LP, using masking tape, whereas Haggisv does that using a Gluesheet....

hmm.. I do have some low-tack paper masking tape lying around...

I used to put a can like green beans or corn sharp side down on each corner to keep it under control. Unfortunately you picked a super hard pip for your first try. The base sheet can be like a balloon

Take the new uncut LP sheet and staple it at all 4 corners to the cardboard that came with the packaging. You can now handle the LP rubber similar to the way you would glue inverted.
=============
Still, use water-based glue only.
Rubber cement will ruin it.

I've only used rubber cement.  Just apply and let it rest for 10 minutes, never an issue.
======================
For inverted rubber with sponge, that's true.
This thread is about LP OX (long-pips without sponge.)

(I ruined my LP OX rubber using rubber cement.)
(For inverted rubber with sponge, using rubber cement works every time - never had a problem.)

I'm talking about pips w/o sponge.

I agree - Practice Makes Perfect...

However, rubbers are not readily available in India, and the ones that are, don't come cheap...

Yes, occasionally, around edges comes loose, then just hold back, reglue blade there, fixed. I play with all my long pips like that.

There is another new way to glue ox lp.  You can try using InnoGlue, it is available on Amazon if you are in USA.  What I do is I use a small piece of sponge instead of the little blue scoop provided.  I dip the sponge to spread a thin layer of InnoGlue on the ox lp. You don't need to apply on the racket at all.

Then the excess InnoGlue, I am just wipe it along the top of the glue bottom so that all the excess glue will go back into the bottle.

Then I will wait for the glue to dry over night as opposed to the recommended 15 to 20 minutes by the supplier.  Then next day, you can apply the ox onto the blade.  The good thing with InnoGlue is that you can remove the ox lp and attache to another racket(s) numerous time without apply additional glue.

I do the same way  that is use in those videos:

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HdoqhxnMkro

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CokTmyOkQ04

With white glue, without solvent, there are less danger getting any bubbles after gluing but anyway, should you have some bubbles, use a little needle, make little holes where the bubble is and it will go away.

I put a slight heavier coat of glue on the blade, after applying the rubber - put some books on the top overnight.
