I'm not gonna take full credit. There's a friend from US who helped me quite a bit as I dun have some of the required tools to make these but I do have the patience, effort, desire n drive to do finishing/mopping up/fine-tuning parts n also make them better...Just wait for my 2nd, 3rd n may be MORE Jpens in due course. One Tenaly 1 ply w/cork handle is coming soon....Wink

Here's another POC 1 Ply w/Balsa ST handle, 8mm and quite light but dunno how many grams. I oversanded the handle a bit but this 1 is quite comfy, to my surprise.

I guess your friend didn't use a real Tenaly as the template.  The handle seems to curved down a bit too steep.  Nevertheless it's nicely done.

does that really look like the handle was just glued to the blade and not one-piece? that blade looks like the head will fly off at the first heavy swing.

edit: looking at it more closely, it looks like pencil marks only :)

What a silly thought!Big%20smile The same thought I had when I first tried ST handled Nittaku Acoustic/Violin that if I were to swing HARD/FAST, the blade would just fly OFF.....well...Look at US now, those ppl who fancy ST handled blades?
Pencil mark is there for reference point/line n it will be erased....

It should be named "Tiehaly 1 ply" with surprisingly nice comfy Cork handle and quite light too, I must admit...Need to sand the "perimeter"/edge of the main blade....Big%20smile. 1 thing is sure it's more bouncy than my TBS and the tone is more pitchy.....

Great name!  I like it.  It shall be known as Tiehaly 1-ply from now on.

The grain pattern looks very nice.  It should have a good catapult effect at higher speed impact.

No, i thought it was not one piece! I have my own custom 'tenaly' style blade ordered from American Hinoki.

don't worry about it. i realize there's a confusion and i was cryptic, but too lazy to explain. not important anyway.. :)

you have nice blades. let us know how your tenaly plays.

btw, how heavy is it? i have a POC tenaly also (not the picture i posted) and it was over 100 grams. i'm not using it because it's too heavy for me and the wood is a bit too hard.

Wow, this blade has an amazing resemblance to the one I got from Ryno last year, even the handle looks exactly the same, thin and squarish (I actually sanded it down to a more rounded one). Are you sure your friend making these is not Ryno?!  :-)

By the way, what are the dimensions and weight of this blade? I would like to compare it to mine, just from curiosity. since the one I have has the butterfly korbel dimensions, 158x152mm (face) and 100mm length (handle), is 9mm thick, while it weighs 111gr (after sanding, 113gr before sanding the handle).

You can see the ryno 1-ply POC here:

http://mytabletennis.net/Forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=14983&PN=2

The lighting is yellowish (tungsten), but under natural light it looks exactly like tiehwen's one.

@Dimitris
That few pics. were older pics., the latest pics. are here:
After some sanding, fine tuning and "agressive Kiln-drying", it looks really good yesterday. It now weighs @ 92g, lighter than my Bty SC-FL which is 94g. Not bad huh? Thumbs%20Up

Tie,

Maybe this is a silly question but where do you buy the bare wood?

Also, during the course of your project, let's say you had two pieces that are each not big enough to cut out a whole blade.  Would you be able to glue these two "wings" to create one piece or would that make it weak or inconsistent?  Thanks.

@Beaver....u need 2 get ur username "checked up" by specialist...LOL. IMHO, 1 ply should always only be 1 ply, otherwise the structural integrity of the blade would not be sound. I'dn't glue that 2 plys side by side for making blade. then again if 4 fun, why not? I've in my neighbourhood a shop where they sell Special woods, kiln dried, for all kinda art/craft/wood works hobbies. I go there for advice and also for all kinda woods. They can refer me to places/facilities where they offer Kiln drying services for a fee. I also have a friend who owns a small bzness where he makes wood/hobbies/craftworks and he can do this drying for me for free.

Remember, I have the MD so I do the check ups Smile

But yeah, at my work, there are a bunch of stuff from crates but they're not big enough to fill a whole racket face.  The wood pieces are pine I think and they're about 20mm thick.  So I might glue two of them side by side so it can be big enough to cut an outline of a Korbel.  It'll be one of the ugliest blades you've ever seen.  I might even call it "The Stoopid Blade".  It'll be a nice autograph blade at least. Smile
