I notice that my form (FH counterhit, as at pingskills)
is better against the robot (on randomized settings) than against my regular hitting partners (my boys, 13 and 11 years old); which in turn is better than my form when hitting against strangers, and finally it's much worse when playing points. Which setting should I practice most with the goal of hitting during matches closer to hitting with the robot? I am middle-aged and play 2-3h/week, and my main goal is to set a good example for my children; secondary is winning some points. Edit: I mean which of the four scenarios to practice: robot, regular partners, hitting against new players, or matches. Best would be a coach, of-course, but I am trying to be cheap. The randomest setting your rohot has will be most lifelike. Robots aren't that good, unfortunately. You really need to see the other player's body language and the contact of their paddle on the ball. Since robots don't give you that it's hard to translate skills vs robot to skills vs people.

To OP,
You are doing fine. You are doing most player are doing and with advantage to have 2 regular partners to hit with (your 2 boys). I'm assuming your boys have their coach(s). Anytime you have a chance to watch your boys taking lessons, you should pay attentions and take notes to what their coach have to said about their strokes and corrections the coach made. Go home and video yourself to see if you are making the same mistakes. Video tape yourself again during your regular practicing with your boys with your improved skills and work on what you needs to work on. You need all the practices you mentioned in your post and you are lucky to have your boys to practicing with. Good luck. |
