Dsol Paul, I think you are mistaking. He's missing some guts and tactical skills. He's a hell of a good player, but for those titles you need something more which is called inspiration or "supreme overtaking". So far I never saw him having that.

i also have a thing to say about that.. me to i dont think samson will be going down because i have seen samsonov beat timo many many times and i have seen timo beat samsonov once. also samsonov has a better record than timo on the ITTF pro tour.

I really dont think that wang hao will be the next top chinese i think you guys should give chen qi a chance because after all he has also beaten ma lin he has also beaten wang liqin and he has also beaten wang hao and he is still a very young guy and has many good years ahead of him

I'm a big fan of Chen Qi too. But when I saw Wang Hao playing in Paris, my friends and I were all thinking he could not lose any point. It was a bit exagerating but this guy doesn't make any errors anymore! And that's where Chen Qi lacks: he makes plenty of errors, even if we consider that he plays faster (which is not always true; Wang Hao can play big rallies but also off the bounce shots with high security AND speed).

But I hope Chen Qi will get better and better!

here's the ittf head-to-head between ma and wlq since late 2001.

note that all of ma's victories came in the semifinals and all of wang's in the finals, except for this year--back in june ma beat wang in the panasonic open final and back in september wang beat ma in the japan open semi.

unfortunately, all the matches are not there.  for example, i think in the 2001 grand finals, ma beat wang 4-3 in the final and then in the 2005 worlds, wang beat ma in the final, as expected.

but anyway, since 2001, when ma and wang play each other in ittf events, it's been totally predictable, that is, ma wins in the semis and wang wins in the finals.  and when they play in the super league, ma wins--this past summer he won all 3 matches between them with the score, 3-1.  and i believe he won all their super league matches last year with the same score, 3-1.

now, come on, guys--how on earth could that just be pure chance??  it's not pure chance!!  they're just throwing the games to each other!!

so, now that you know, it shouldn't be difficult at all predicting who will win whenever they play.  so, if i were you, i'd find some totally clueless guy and bet some money on the match and take advantage of your new-found knowledge!!

over and out!!

ahhh man i deffinately think that ma will continue being the top player on the ITTF pro tour for a long time. I just think that wang hao needs to improve his mental toughness... he has lost in the olympics finall and 2 times in the world cup final. And after ma lin i think Chen qi will be the dominant force

yeah... definatly chen qi is still up and coming but with the retirement of kong linghui, and the fairly soon to come retirement of wang liqin, china will have to produce some new young players soon... there is hou yingchao who is beginning 2 play well, but i look forward to the next generation of chinese players

Now I want to know your theory about why Wang LQ lost to Wang Hao in the Olympic semis......!

I think it was an accident only, Wang Liqin played not well and Wang Hao too fierce.
I als think that Ma Long will be the dominent in the future. Zhou Bin, Li Ping, Lei Zhen Hua, Zhang Chao, Li Hu and Liu Miao, Miao Xiangyang, Xu Xin, Song Shichao, Lin Chen all good but none can be compared to Ma Long.

It is true that none of those players can pass ma long because they are older and i have seen ma long defeat wang liqin and timo boll you probably have toi so you know and i know he will certainly be then next ma lin or wang liqin
