shakehand packs more power into the forehand drive while penhold allows for greater control of the ball

I feel more power in the penhold, but I still play shakehand. I like the additional length.

i feel both have its own pros and cons... cause i play rpb and shakehand too.. just to mix up the opponent... my rpb loop is stronger than penhold forehand and my shakehand has a stronger forehand and weaker backhand than rpb... get the best of both worlds...

I switched from penhold to shakehand so as to have a backhand. It's been great. Very good for flicks and loops.

don't know which is the best hold, but for me, grew up with penhold, so i think i'm going to stick to that, but rpb is becoming more and more intriguing so i might add that to my style. although rpb is a relatively new style, i think more and more players will start using that, or at least the chinese players.

Exactly, for me penhold is the best. But for Table Tennis communities as a whole there is no best. Use the search function. This is like the 50th thread on this topic, you can probabaly find like 300 differnt posts that give people's opinions.

Well it happens a lot. If you dont feel like giving a discussable response to a noob, do what I do. Say something like "use the search function, that wil give you the answer". Dont say something like "what a noob post" because we have all done that before.

Any question is a good question or else there wouldn't be a formun, if you don't like the question, don't waste your time criticizing it. If you going to use the effort to actually write something write something for the better not worst!

shakehand and penhold has its own advantages. for me is shakehand, because penhold cant even backhand. anyhow, penhold is for choppers mostly, while shakehand is for attackers

Pennhold if for choppers? What have you been drinking befor writing this post? If anyghint is correct it is: Pennhold is for the agressive players and shakehand for players who wants to be a bit more alround, or even chopping.

It's alot easier to chop with penhold at beginner levels. Espcially backhand chop.

shakehand=power
penhold=control the best of both worlds for penhold and shakehand would be the vgrip, which is supposedly a fusion of the two holding styles |
