But anyway.. No, it's not.

Doubtful, but there's no rule against it. PokerPete I believe did an even better rendition of this with apollo.

The ball rolls around on the rubber, so it counts as a double touch?

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

no.

in the definition of a "return," the rule says that the ball "shall be struck..."  it doesn't say that the ball "shall be struck or carried."

no.  that's not a double hit.  a double hit is, well, a double hit...

This all depends on the meaning of the word "struck"! Wink

"struck" doesn't mean "carried!!"

you can wipe the dust out of your right eye now, so you can stop blinking!!

It's very difficult to "kill" the ball and make it stay on the rubber without at least having a small bounce which makes it a double hit.

I would think that the ball rolling around on the rubber would count as a double hit. It's a double hit in volleyball if the balls rolls of your arms at least.

And as mentioned, carrying the ball does not count as striking the ball.

Myth busted!

guys, i dont see why it is even important to discuss the legality of this move. Let us say that this movei is LEGAL, it wont matter because no one can do this in a real game. The only reason this person in the video can do it, and most people on this can as well if they try with a tacky rubber is because the ball has no spin what so ever. Put spin on the ball and let me see someone perform this move. and since we are all TT players, we know that TT is all about spin. So there is no point in discussing this, this action might as well be legal, it no one can pull it off unless they get a slow no spin ball

Does waldner's pull back block (when he's taking pace off the ball) count as a carry then?

There's no limit on how hard or how soft you have to strike the ball, just that it needs to be contacted.

This is truly the way to win against nospin serves.

It is legal, if the ball bounces only one time on the rubber, it's legal.
In world class matches there sometimes are situations you can do it I believeApprove

This is what I like about this Forum - all the mis information. It is definetely 100% NOT LEGAL.

The ball is caught and carried, that is not allowed in our game,  It must be STRUCK.
