In Europe and Asia some clubs have adjustable height tables, so they can lower the height for younger kids. They also have tables that are smaller for kids. (Not just standard mini-tables, which are often smaller but the same height as standard tables, which are too high for younger kids.) These types of tables allow kids to start playing much younger, even as young as 3-5 years old. Anyone know about these types of tables and where they can be bought?

Have you asked Sean O?  He's a strong advocate of the different height tables.

May not adjust low enough for you but here is one.

I have thought about this ever since I heard the story about the platform ZJK's father built for him.

If you have an extra table to experiment with you could just modify the legs yourself or take the legs off and take them to a metal fabricator and tell them what you want to be able to do. Most table supports are hollow which means you can cut them shorter and insert an inner box sleave. Drill holes for the height adjustment and use pins to lock in place.  Also you could cut an existing table surface to be proportionally smaller as well. You would need a good table saw. If no one has one big enough a custom furniture/woodworking shop should.

I am guessing that you would be developing a program similar to what was done in tennis with mini courts. That program seemed to be really successful and would think it would work with TT as well.

A DIY way to do this is to buy one of those table tennis tops designed to go on top of a pool table. Place it on an adjustable height folding table, which can be bought from places like Home Depot. Might need 2 tables for stability.

You can also buy adjustable height table legs and mount them to the table.

When I was a kid, my brother and I used a standard size 4 X 8 sheet of plywood as a tt table. The guy at the lumber yard cut in half for us and we put hinges on it so it could be folded up. We placed it on top of an old table. Cost us about $10 back then.

Larry, After looking at the available adjustable leg tables we decided to make our own. We bought a Butterfly Europa and cut a several inches off each leg. We then made a wood insert that fits inside the end of the metal leg to adjust the height.

We solved it by putting benches under the table.
