Hi, I was in Meycauayan City about 2-3 hours north of Manila. Heard a rumor of a local club and tracked it down. It took some finding.....
It's across the highway from Marilao SM Mall, in a side street across the road from an air-con business called Cryo-Gen. Don't try to find it during the day - the area looks like a building site (it is).
At night you can follow the bright lights. Go up the ramp, turn right.
I found 2 tables (should be 3 by now) and some enthusiastic and skilled players. It is a private club run by 2 brothers who let anyone play for free. It's nestled under a cement roof from a half built construction with lights and fans rigged in typical Philly style. They play from 7pm til whenever.
They have about 50 players and usually 10-20 on any night.
I was surprised at the high skill levels of all the players I saw - school champions, state age champions, 2 university champions and a member of the national junior squad. Even their average players were too good for me. It was good to see many young players there.
This club is not mentioned in any searches I made of Philly table tennis clubs - they are private so I assume they are not affiliated with the national organisation. They do have a Facebook page.
Thanks to Melvin and Roland for making me feel welcome.
So, if you are in the area, drop in on any night and say hi.
